Weekend To-do: Feb. 26-28
The See photo: MyspaceWith roller derby, rock, theater, art, basketball, baseball, brinner and a movie night, and a chili cook-off all happening in town, we’re only a demolition derby and a renaissance fair away from a perfect weekend in Fayetteville. Is there a demolition derby going down somewhere that I don’t know about?
It starts today at 3:05, as the Razorback baseball team returns to action at Baum Stadium for a three game series with Troy. The Hogs are 2-1 on the year after winning their first series last week against Ball State.
After that, get a Wakarusa preview at George’s for happy hour. The Last Waltz Ensemble, a tribute to Bob Dylan and The Band and also one of the bands on the Wakarusa lineup this year will be in the garden from 6-8:00 p.m.
TheatreSquared’s one-man mystery “Underneath the Lintel” opens Friday night at the Studio Theatre inside Nadine Baum Studio’s.
Also tonight, the UARK Bowl is showing The Breakfast Club, and serving breakfast for dinner starting at 6:30.
Chris Denny is back in town for a show at the Smoke and Barrel Friday night. If you’re not familiar, Denny just recorded a record with Partisan Records (Deer Tick), and spends his free time hanging out with the likes of Rick Ruben. In other words, he’s kind of a big deal.
On Saturday, there’s a chili cook-off at Pratt Place Barn benefiting Alzheimer’s Arkansas (and your tastebuds) at 12:30.
Also, the Razorback Basketball team takes on Vanderbilt at Bud Walton Arena at 12:30. No more donkey ball, please.
The Hobbit opens at the Walton Arts Center on Saturday, with shows at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Heard of it?
Saturday night, the Arkansas Killbillies (yea!) take on the Derby Dames (boo!) from Columbia, Missouri in Roller Derby action at the Starlight Skatium. Go Killbillies.
If you like rock, good luck making a decision Saturday night.
Apartment 5 is at Rogue with Ghost Dance from Springfield, Mo, and Mormon Nailer.
There’s an enormous show at George’s with American Aquarium, Monster Heart, Randall Shreve, Bobby Drivers, and Jason Paul & The New Wine.
The Smoke and Barrel concludes it’s “It Came From Little Rock” series of shows with with Frown Pow’r, The See and Andy Warr. Magic Hassle, unfortunately, had to cancel their performance, but Frown Pow’r, who weren’t able to make it Thursday night are filling in.
Also, the NWA Roller Derby after party is at Cheers tonight with Hosta.

That caught my eye as well, BCC. Best author-reference/ gender-specific-fornication-allusion band name ever! I bet Norman Mailer gets a postmortem giggle out of that one.

Are they serving beer now at the Skatium? That is where all the ska bands play right?

That should read “religion-specific-fornication-allusion.” I suppose the Mormon in question could be of either gender.

Thank god you cleared that up, George.
And I’m hoping the Mormon in question is female.
Because every female Mormon (Femormon?) I’ve ever know was a f@cking freak.
