Who’s your favorite Fayetteville band of all time?

I love talking about this stuff.

Over the years, there have been some incredible bands from Fayetteville. I can’t think of many that went on to international superstardom, but I know that many a good time has been had over the years as a direct result of the efforts of local bands on or around Dickson St. (among other places).

I’m also no music historian (I’m looking at you, Urk), but I’ve been around the scene long enough to have seen my share of incredible local bands. There have are also been plenty of great ones that I never saw in their heyday.

I’ve had a few people mention Zorro and the Blue Footballs to me recently, an (apparently) great redneck jazz and jump blues band from the 70’s. The Cate Brothers obviously deserve some respect. Have you guys ever heard of the Greasy Greens?

I’ve heard that Punkinhead and Dali Automatic/The Faith Healers were awesome, but I never saw them live.

My musical memory in Fayetteville starts just before the Clunk Music Hall era in town. I think of bands like 100 Years War, and Kung Fu Grip and the Quadrofiends. Those were some of the first local bands that blew my mind.

I loved watching bands like The Tares down in the basement of old JR’s Lightbulb Club. Remember the Tickle? Kings of New England? I also loved playing down there with various bands in the late 90’s/early 2000’s.

Trout Fishing in America is pretty famous. Vore has been around for about 16 years.

There are countless others.

On top of the old school stuff, there are some pretty inspiring bands playing in town right now that would give some of the older bands mentioned above a run for their money.

My first idea was to ask you guys who the best bands in the history of Fayetteville were, but I realized that question is unanswerable. Unless you’ve been around the scene, and have stayed glued to it for at least the last 50 years or so, there’s no way for anyone to make that judgement.

But regardless of what era of the Fayetteville music scene you might remember best, any one of you should be able to name your favorite Fayetteville band.

What do you guys say? Who is your favorite Fayetteville band of all time?
