California Boulevard renamed Clinton Drive

The Fayetteville City Council voted unanimously to rename S. California Blvd. to S. and W. Clinton Dr. this week in honor of two of Fayetteville’s most famous former residents, at the request of the Clinton House Museum Board of Directors.

Former president Bill Clinton, and his wife and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were married at their home on 930 California Blvd. in 1975, where they lived for about a year before moving to Little Rock in 1976.

The home where the Clintons started their lives together is now the Clinton House Museum, owned by the University of Arkansas, and operated by the Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission.

The original resolution called for a change from California Blvd. to Clinton Blvd., but the ordinance was amended at the request of Ward 2 Alderman Kyle Cook to change the name to Clinton Drive.

The cost of the name change was estimated at $325 to replace the street signs.
