Thursday To-Do: Aug. 26

With the weekend beginning in less than 24 hours, the new paid parking plan is about to get its first real test.

Besides seeing an onslaught of UA students flocking to Dickson Street sometime Friday evening, onlookers might also notice some unwelcome additions to the windshields of vehicles lining the streets in the area.

Warning citations began last night and ticketing begins tomorrow. Penalties are low ($10 for the first offense), but not as low at the $5 maximum rate in the city-owned lots.

It should be an interesting weekend, but until then, here’s some stuff to do tonight.

If you simply can’t wait until next month to get back inside Fayetteville Underground, or if you saw something you liked a few weeks ago and have been meaning to visit again before the August show ends, there’s a free Art Talk event tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Artists Greg Moore and Leilani Law will discuss some of their exhibits on display this month giving attendees a chance to gain deeper insight into their processes.

If it’s music you’re after, don’t forget about Candy Lee’s album release party tonight at Smoke & Barrel Tavern. Her full band, The Sweets, will be there. Will you?

There’s a big show at George’s tonight with The Glitch Mob and Cornmeal. Tickets are $18. Show starts around 8 p.m.
