Coming soon: Randy Newman Jan. 22 at Walton Arts Center

Our RSS reader delivered an unexpected gift via the Pollstar feed for Fayetteville this morning.

What gift was that, you might ask? Only that singer, songwriter, composer, producer, and veritable genius Randy Newman is headed to town for a show just after the first of the year on Jan. 22, 2011 at the Walton Arts Center.

If you don’t know who Randy Newman is, he’s only composed the scores to about 30 films, been nominated for 18 or so Oscars (winning one), 12 Grammy’s (winning four), three Emmy’s (winning three), a handful of Golden Globe’s, and a zillion or so other awards in his career that’s spanned over 42 years.

Newman even has a bar located right here in Fayetteville named after one of his songs. According to the owners, Kingfish is named after Newman’s song of the same name.

Ticket prices and sale dates have not been released, but Walton Arts Center officials said that the show will probably go on sale some time in October at waltonartscenter.org. We’ll keep you posted.

Update: The Walton Arts Center announced that Randy Newman tickets will go on sale Friday, Oct. 8.
