Weekend To-do: Oct. 22-24

Before we get started on the weekend activities, I have a question for you guys. Is Fayetteville missing anything from an entertainment standpoint? What would you like to see more of in town?

OK, that’s two questions.

For example, do you wish you could go to the opera here in Fayetteville? Do you wish we had an Arena Football League team? Do you think we need more of a certain type of show? Do we need more of a certain type of festival? Do you wish Snoop Dogg played here every weekend?

I’m asking completely out of curiosity. You know what I wish we had more of? Weekends, baby. Party.

Friday

Right after work today, the Fayetteville Chamber is hosting the annual Rocking With The Razorbacks pep rally at the NWA Mall. Several Razorbacks will be there signing autographs. It all starts at 5 p.m.

How about some theatre? University of Arkansas Theatre presents their version of the Tony Award-winning musical Urinetown this weekend. Here’s the schedule of performances.

Another Tony Award-winner, The Color Purple is playing at the Walton Arts Center. Our latest contributor, Tobias Wray, says it’s worth the ticket.

Tunes-wise, there’s some country music at George’s with Fayetteville favorite Pat Green. That guy has been coming to town for as long as I can remember.

Also, remember Six Hung Sprung? Well, it looks like they have reunited for a show at the Boom Boom Room Friday night along with Snorlaxx and The Plaid Jackets.

Saturday

The old weirdo that former Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain dubbed the “dork” is back in town, and the Razorbacks will be beating the bejebus out of the dork and his dumb old Ole Miss Black Bears beginning promptly at 11 a.m.

After the game, there’s a fashion show at the Fayetteville Underground. Seven local and regional designers will be showing off their work at Ozark Couture Fall: A Wearable Art Event. DJ EJ is playing. Here are more details.

George’s has a double headliner show on Saturday night, with Boombox and Mountain Sprout. It’s basically two shows for the price of one.

Do you like Black Mountain? If so, click on these words, and listen to a couple Mondo Drag tracks. Then, realize that those dudes are at Smoke & Barrel with Holy Mountain and Voyageurs Saturday. See what I mean?

Sunday

Sunday kind of belongs to Snoop Dogg for obvious reasons (he’s at Barnhill, you know). Locals Sound Child Crew are opening the show. Here’s another interesting piece of information: about 200 more tickets have been made available to the show, and they’re on sale now at waltonartscenter.org if you’re interested.

To get y’all in the Halloween-week-spirit, Smoke & Barrel is hosting a Zombie Movie Night.

Also on Sunday night, Jody’s Living Room open mic night is celebrating their one-year anniversary with a big party at LIT. According to their Facebook page, it’s a black-tie(ish) event.

There’s a lot more below, and feel free to add to the list in the comments. Weekend!

I’ve long been waiting for someone to start a backyard pro wrestling league in Fayetteville. I’d be willing to volunteer as a writer; I’ve got so many good ideas for angles.

Mitch Mustain does not play for Ole Miss. Their coach HDN is back in town.

Thanks. Fixed for clarity. We’ll be beating the dork, and his black bear friends this weekend.

There will be four AMAZING local DJs and a few poets throwing down some words with the music.

Nutt clearly made a poor choice at the end with his RB handling the ball…cost them the game. Poor coaching

Ott is playing at Georges tonight. This is a fantastic chance to see a world-class psydub/downtempo master play LIVE (not a DJ set) in a smaller, intimate environment. He’s only playing 6 shows on this tour and Fayetteville is one of them. It’s $10 – that’s nothing for the show you’ll get. The vibe is amazing.

Hopefully I can get off work. :/
