Weekend To-do: Dec. 3-5

I don’t know what happened, but it looks like everyone in Fayetteville decided to have an event of some sort this weekend.

Below, you’ll find about 1,000 local art sales, one million opportunities to see some live music, holiday shows, a fashion show, a charity event or two, and about a billion other things happening in town over the next three days.

After the week we’ve had, we deserve a weekend. Don’t you think?

Friday

Happy hour starts at 6 p.m. at George’s with the Bel Airs and Ultra Suede. Later on, Red Dirt rockers Jason Boland & the Stragglers are in the garden, followed by locals Charliehorse to close out the night.

Chances are, you picked up some awesome local art at Fayetteville Underground, and Kathy P. Thompson’s Studio 3 last night during First Thursday, but you’ve probably got several more people on your shopping list. That’s where The Block Street Holiday Art Sale at GoodFolk comes in.

If you can’t get into the holiday spirit this time of your, you’re really going to be screwed come January. UA Theatre is performing their version of A Christmas Carol at Walton Arts Center this weekend, which should help. Here’s the schedule of performances.

Lucio is celebrating his birthday for the second night in a row at Smoke & Barrel on Friday with DJ EQ, DJ Rasmey, and former Razorback (and one of my favorites of all time) Fred Talley. Apparently, Talley is a fiend on the mic.

Saturday

I hope you like local art. In addition to continuation of the Block Street Holiday Art Sale, there’s also a special Fayetteville Farmers’ Market Holiday Craft Market at the Botanical Garden, more local arts and crafts at Ozark Folkways, and the NWACCC Holiday Bazaar is going down at Nadine Baum Studios. Get me something.

How about some fashion? Ultra Studios is hosting a Get the Look Fashion Show at 6 p.m. Saturday night. Not only can you check out some sweet local fashions, but the best-dressed person in attendance will also win a prize.

The Fayetteville Public Library is hosting a photo scanning event to kick off Project Fayetteville on Saturday. Bring in your old Fayetteville photos, check out the ones that other folks bring in, and help the library create a sweet Fayetteville documentary and digital photo archive. Whaddayasay?

How about some tunes? Emily Kaitz , Effron White, Trout Fishing in America, Mike Sumler, Still on the Hill, Reese Neal, Old Dime Box will be at Bailey Hall on the grounds of Mt. Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center to benefit the family of local musician and songwriter Gary Smyzd, whose 12-year-old son is battling health issues.

Phunbags comedy improv is back in action on Saturday night at UARK Ballroom. If you’ve never seen them, see them Saturday night.

Guitar genius, and blues master JJ Grey and Mofro is at George’s, and if you haven’t already, you can pick up his new album Georgia Warhorse while you’re there.

Also, Rollo Tumasi, Amsterdam, and Jarris will be at Rogue Saturday night. They’ll be the ones rocking people’s faces off.

Sunday

Holy crap. Genome Chomsky is back!. They’ve got a new drummer, and they’ll be at Drifters Sunday night with Koffin Kats, Brutally Frank, and Truckstop Hookers.

Emily Kaitz is at the newly rennovated Terra Studios Sunday afternoon, and Dead Kenny G’s with Mike Dillon & Skerik are at George’s for Monster Mug Night.

There are about a thousand more things below. Maybe a million. I didn’t count. Weekend, biotch.
