A 1,310-foot section of Razorback Road between Cleveland and Maple streets is set to receive a sidewalk in 2012 as part of the Fayetteville Transportation Division’s sidewalk improvement project plan.

Fayetteville residents can expect to see over 5 miles of sidewalk improvements in 2011.

The city’s Transportation Division last week was given the go ahead by the City Council for a proposal list that includes 29 improvement projects in all four of Fayetteville’s wards.

The largest section of planned sidewalk is a 2,300-foot stretch on Mission Boulevard between Vandergriff Drive and Covington Park Drive.

Other large projects include sidewalks on Oakland Avenue, Razorback Road and Mt. Comfort Road.

The project list includes a total of 28,023 linear feet (5.3 miles) summarized by ward as follows:
Ward 1 – 5,545 feet
Ward 2 – 12,379 feet
Ward 3 – 5,837 feet
Ward 4 – 4,262 feet

Great news they are putting a sidewalk on Prospect from Gregg to Frisco. There is a trail entrance/exit at the T of Prospect and Frisco, and lots of folks use that coming to and from Wilson Park. That short stretch feels a little perilous without a sidewalk.

I am so glad to see a side walk being built on Mt. Comfort, but Deane St is a huge need. All kinds of folks walk along Deane St to get to Garland/Harps.

Im glad we’re getting a sidewalk…although I hope they don’t chop down the huge trees in my front yard. I live on Spring street—will the sidewalk be on both sides? If not, what side of Spring will it be on?

A sidewalk north of College on Dickson street would be great, by the way.

Can you locate that on a map?

Everyone should contact the Fayetteville Active Transportation Advisory Committee (there is a link on the city website) and let them know your priority locations for new sidewalks. Also, let them know how to get right of way easements for free, how to construct the sidewalks without removing any trees, whether sidewalk and trail impact fees from developers are needed to serve growth areas, and who should be asked to pay for the construction of new sidewalks in existing neighborhoods and business districts. The committee can then schedule public hearings on these issues and advise the City Council, and it will give them helpful information to address complaints about need, costs, and inconvenience of the construction projects after the decisions are made and implemented. If that is too much trouble, just continue posting on blogs as if you think it will make any difference.

@ Mr. Dooley: I have called. Left a message. Hoping for a call back…nothing yet. Maybe it’s because of the Holidays.

Btw, I realized I said “north” of college. I don’t have a great sense of direction. I think I should have said a sidewalk east (not north) of college on Dickson street. Sorry.
