TheatreSquared presents the World Premiere of Sundown Town, featuring (rear left) Quinn Gasaway, Bill Rogers, David A. Wright; (front center) Valarie Andrews, Bruch Reed, Alex B. West, Halley Mayo; (back center) Bryan Hembree, Bernice Hembree, Bayard Blain, Ann Mesrobian; (rear right) Kris Pruett and John T. Smith.

After more than two years of development, TheatreSquared’s production of Sundown Town is finally going to make its world premier before local audiences on Friday, Feb. 4.

Anticipation has been building for months around the production, written by local playwright Kevin Cohea, and directed by Kevin Christopher Fox.

As we said before the T2 artist forum last week, there is a lot to be excited about. The play offers a candid look at some of the dark history of the area, and the “Sundown Towns” across the South that didn’t allow African Americans inside their city limits after dark.

The play was developed over the last two years as part of T2’s new play festival, and received a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It also features a live-soundtrack of bluegrass, folk and gospel tunes performed by local band 3 Penny Acre. When the show opens next week, it will be made up of the largest cast of performers in the history of TheatreSquared.

You know what else there is to be excited about? We’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away to the Sunday, Feb. 20 event which features a 2 p.m. performance of Sundown Town and a 3 Penny Acre concert on the same stage at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Try to win.

Leave a comment below telling us what element of the show you’re most excited about, and you’re entered. Is it the historical aspect of the play? The local playwright? The director? The cast? The live soundtrack provided by 3 Penny Acre? The fact that it’s the largest cast in the history of TheatreSquared?

What you’ll win
