Weekend To-do: Jan. 28-30

Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell is at Walton Arts Center Friday night.

It’s not very often that we get a weekend of 60-degree weather at the end of January, but that’s what the people who get paid to predict these types of things are saying is about to happen in Fayetteville.

As a result, it’s probably a good idea to find some time in between the mostly-indoor entertainment options below to lay in a hammock, sit on a patio, take your dog to the new dog park, fly a kite, like our new Facebook page :), go for a bike ride on the trails, or find something to do outside this weekend.

We’re not psychic or anything, but our guess is that 60-degree days between now and the middle of March are going to be pretty few and far between. Enjoy it.

Friday

Happy hour starts promptly at 6 p.m. at George’s with the Bel Airs in the garden, and Steve Pryor in the lounge at 7 p.m. Later on, Benjamin Del Shreve and Silverstone are in the garden, and A Good Fight and K.C. band Rocker Lips are in the lounge.

Possibly (probably) the greatest violinist in the world is at Walton Arts Center Friday night. His name is Joshua Bell, and if you’re not familiar, you should read the story of his almost 300-year-old, $2 million Gibson Stradivarius violin. Crazy.

If Fayetteville has a favorite country/rock band, it’s probably Charliehorse. They’ll be at Rogue, and Jr. Soapbox will open the show.

It’s been a while since Graham Wilkinson & The Underground Township have been in town, but the Arkansas-expat will be back at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night for a show.

If you missed opening night Step 1 Theatre’s The Chamber, there are three more chances to see the play at B-Unlimited Theatre this weekend. The Friday night show starts at 8 p.m., and the Saturday shows are at 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Saturday

If you want to get a closer look at the bands that will be at the Waka Winter Classic next week, the first of two chances comes Saturday. The Great Scotts will be at Maxines Tap Room for you to begin your evaluation process, with Rollo Tumasi and Mac & Steve.

There’s another big show at The Lightbulb Club this weekend with Memphis’ Cloudland Canyon, and White Creeps (featuring members of The Pink Drapes), and awesome locals, Voyageurs.

Matt Smith Group is at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night. He’s got a new record coming out in March, too, so get ready for that.

The UA Marching Band may be the “Best in sight and sound,” but for a little bit different take on what a marching band experience can be like, you could check out Drumline Live! at Walton Arts Center.

Sunday

How about some morning/early afternoon music on Sunday? Candy Lee & The Sweets are back at Greenhouse Grille for brunch.

On Saturday night, another Waka Winter Classic contender, the Fuggins Wheat Band is at Rogue, and Cadillac Jackson is back at George’s for Monster Mug Night.

Also, Smoke & Barrel is having another one of their Sunday night movie nights, this time with a few classic Paul Newman flicks.

There’s more below, and feel free to add anything we missed in the comments. Commence partying.
