90th birthday party for Feriba McNair

McNair Middle School will hold a 90th birthday party for Feriba McNair on Wednesday, March 30 at 1:30 pm in the McNair Cafeteria. McNair students will present a “This is Your Life”-style decades program to honor Mrs. McNair.

McNair Middle School opened in 2000 and was named in honor of Feriba McNair, who was the first woman to serve on the Fayetteville Board of Education. McNair served on the school board from 1967 to 1985, including her last years as president of the board. She also established the first girls’ physical education program at Fayetteville High School, where she taught from 1943-46 and 1953-56. She also taught science and was the FHS pep squad sponsor.

Feriba McNair remains active in volunteer and charitable work more than seventy years after graduation from Fayetteville High School. She was inducted into the Fayetteville Schools Hall of Honor in 1999.

The McNair family has donated $2,000 to the McNair Middle School Library for the purchase of 90 books in honor of Feriba McNair. The books will be on display on Wednesday.
