Besides adding more street space to its monthly footprint, First Thursday Fayetteville is expanding its marketing to include more signage this year.

Organizers installed a new banner on the Fayetteville Town Center plaza this week advertising the monthly art walk event which kicks off the 2011 season April 7 on the downtown square.

“We wanted to get it placed in time for opening day of the Farmers’ Market,” said Jessica Leonard, communications manager for the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau.

Leonard said the plan is to remove the banner after First Thursday ends and then reinstall it about a week before the following month’s event.

The bureau was authorized by the City Council to manage First Thursday in March 2010 as an effort to expand the event. Since then, First Thursday has grown to include live music, a beer garden, a kids’ zone, and street art space on East Avenue, the Town Center plaza, and most recently, Mountain Street.
