The 2011 Block Street Block Party began at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 22 on Block Avenue in downtown Fayetteville.
Mayor Lioneld Jordan, along with members of the Fayetteville City Council and organizers of the first ever block party, kicked off the festivities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
More than 20 bands, 40 vendors, and dozens of community groups from the region are set up along the blocked off street leading from Dickson Street to the downtown Square.
Here are some early photos:

As a merchant on Block St. let me say how much we enjoyed having all of you attend our first Block St. party. The party was a great success because of you. If you had a good time please tell your friends and come visit us when you can. The merchants of Block St. are a great mix of unique experiences like none other in Northwest Arkansas. For those of you that didn’t get to attend, it is not too late come see us whenever you can. We will be glad to have you.
This was just another reminder of why I’m glad I live in Fayetteville. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
awesome block party and 100% local
As a relative newcomer to Fayetteville (I endured my first BBB last Sept) this wonderfully funky home-grown and unpretentious celebration of community was a breath of fresh air. Literally. Many people walked or bicycled to this small-carbon-footprint event — you can’t get more local than that. Thanks to all the businesses that pulled this together without a subsidy from the city or chamber. Looks to me like Block St is asserting itself beautifully as Funk Central in Fayetteville–and there’s no reason we can’t make sure it stays that way. Block St Rocks! Let’s do it again next year!
Love love loved the block party. I agree with @ann that this was a great example of the community in Fayetteville coming together and I hope we do repeat it every year. I work at Hand Held Knitting (on Block) and it was exciting to be part of such a fun and dynamic Fayetteville experience. These, and events like First Thursdays are more examples of how Fayetteville is constantly improving. Well done, Block St. businesses!
I has such a great time! I have lived in Fayetteville for just under a year and it was a good opportunity to meet people in the community and also it was my first time selling as a vendor. Thanks to the Block St. Businesses for letting me be a part of this awesome experience! Looking forward to next year.
All this fun being had on Block Street will surely cause rents to rise.
(wah..wah….wahaaaahhhh)
A good time was had by all. Good job Block Ave Businesses. Nice event.
Was this when they made the parking backward? What ever happened with that, anyway? I saw a lot of moaning at city hall when people complained.
