Welcome to the Daily Flyer. It’s Thursday, Aug. 18, y’know?

Local Notes

Did you have awesome hair in the 80s? Did you live in the awesomest state in America back then? If so, there’s a new Arkansas tee you might like to wear (or just look at) over on our sister site. (Bearstate Supply)

After a couple of mysterious two-hour, closed meetings held Tuesday and Wednesday, the Fayetteville Public Library board voted 7-0 to place executive director Shawna Thorup on administrative leave for two weeks pending further review. (NWAOnline)

UA students can now re-fill their water bottles using newly installed dispensing systems inside the Arkansas Union and HPER building. (Arkansas Traveler)

Razorbacks head men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson will appear on ESPNU at 4 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 19) along with UConn coach Jim Calhoun, Louisville coach Rick Pitino, Butler coach Brad Stevens, North Carolina coach Roy Williams, Memphis coach Josh Pastner and Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall. (UA Athletics)

Happy Birthday!

Locals: Ariane Savannah, Cynthia Mills Ward, Eric Edelstein, Patricia Wyatt, Melissa Werner, Taniah Tudor, Allison Freewalt, and Scott Shackelford.
Others: Former first lady Rosalynn Carter is 84 and director Roman Polanski is 78. Also: Actors Robert Redford (75), Patrick Swayze (59), Christian Slater (42), Edward Norton (42), Malcolm-Jamal Warner (41) and Mika Boorem (24).
Send us your local birthday shout outs.

Thursday To-do

KXUA’s 3rd Thursday

So what’s fun to do tonight? It depends on your fun taste buds (fun buds?).

There’s a dance party at JR’s and leading the mixes is Aerosault founder DJ Bizar. Currently the resident DJ for 1st Thursdays at Smoke & Barrel, Bizar has opened for Mix Master Mike, Glitch Mob, Lotus, 12th Planet, Treasure Fingers and more. DJ EJ is set to host.

What else? A rock show at George’s, a party on the patio at Powerhouse, and a handful of other choices.

If you’re looking to start a business, don’t forget about the free seminar today at noon at the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.

The list:

Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce: How to Start a Creative Business in Fayetteville
New Design School: NDS’s Meet Your Instructor
