Mermaids Seafood Restaurant is getting some fancy new digs.
Signs at the restaurant’s current location, as well as in front of the building formerly home to Savor Restaurant, indicate the business will soon be moving.
Chef/owner Todd Golden confirmed the news Monday.
“I think it’s going to be great,” Golden said of the new location. “There’s definitely plenty of room.”
Savor’s last day in business was Friday, Sept. 30, said former general manager Chad Williams.
If all goes according to plan, Mermaids will be open in the new location at 2217 N. College Ave. by Oct. 10.
Until then, they will continue to operate in their current space at 1815 N. Green Acres Rd.

I did not Savor was closing. It was a really good one.
Mermaids did a great job of gradually growing its business over time. They always seemed packed and never had enough parking. Looks like a solid move! I wonder what will go into the old Mermaids spot….
I saw a Savor commercial on TV last night. I guess you get what you pay for, whether you need it or not.
Did EVERYONE think Mermaids was a strip club when it opened, or was it just my friends and I?
I think that spot used to be a strip club.
I remember a Pizza Inn that was there for a while. I think.
yes, i thought the same thing! i’ve heard several others say that as well.
I saw a television commercial for Savor Monday. Guess that was a waste of money.
Huge win for Mermaids. Over the past couple years I’ve come to the conclusion that Mermaids may be the best ‘nice’ restaurant in town. Food is consistently great and the restaurant is consistently packed. The extra seating and parking will be a boon for them. Plus the new bar can seat 50 instead of 2.
I remember Pizza inn. I went to a bday party there in 5th grade. I’ve been pizza partying for a lot of years. Dr peppers and stuff.
About 30 years ago the Savor site was a giant record store called White Dog. On the north end of that building was (if memory serves) an outdoor outfitter-type place.
In the late ’60′s it was a pre-Walmart discount store called Gibson’s, that changed to Howard’s for a while. White Dog was an awesome record store that also sold stereo components I think, at that time the north end was an Ozarks crafts shop. During the mid-80′s it was a Disco call Gazebo, complete with a disco ball, Bee-Gees and so on. Good times!
Thanks for the local history notes guys. Cool to hear what was here in the 1960′s, 70′s, 80′s. The “White Dog” record store sounds hip.
Didn’t a basketball player shoot and kill someone at that nightclub during a snowstorm in the mid 80s? It was also home to Planet Rock, which got shuttered in the mid 90s due to serving minors.
William Mills was killed there.
