Alice Walton arrested on DWI charge

  • by Flyer Staff
    on October 13, 2011 at 11:51 am

Alice Louise Walton / Parker County Sheriff

Walmart heiress and billionaire Alice Walton was arrested in Texas last week on a charge of driving while intoxicated, the Weatherford Democrat reports.

Walton, who lives in Parker County, was stopped in a construction zone for a traffic violation at about 10 p.m. Friday, her 62nd birthday.

She was released by 9 a.m. on a $1,000 bond.

According to the newspaper report, jail book-in information and a mug shot are typically published on the Parker County Jail website shortly after an arrest. Walton’s information, however, “did not appear to be published on the Parker County Jail website until a call was made to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office from a Democrat reporter Wednesday afternoon.”

That info is currently available online.

This doesn’t appear to be Walton’s first DUI charge. According to reports, she was convicted of DUI in 1998 and was reportedly involved in a fatal car crash in 1989.

As Arkansas Blog points out, the timing of Friday’s incident is unfortunate considering Walton’s involvement in Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art which is set for a Nov. 11 opening in Bentonville.

Read the full story at the Weatherford Democrat.

Update: According to a statement released by a family spokesman, Walton accepts full responsibility for the incident.

I wonder if she shouted “I’m Alice Walton!” to the arresting officers?

Hey Alice! I’m definitely a very good driver, and can keep my mouth shut. I’m willing to work for a very reasonable salary, can be available on demand and could even wear that scorpion jacket Ryan Gosling wore in “Drive” if you’d like. I don’t look anything like Ryan Gosling, though. Sorry.

Rumor is she lives in TX to avoid AR’s egregious top rate of 7% on Income Tax . AR does not tax wealth per se, just the earnings therefrom.
One things for sure, some law-yer just got a bump.

You work 20 years of fatalities as a result of drunk driving and see how you feel. I have no qualm with believing the world is better off without people that inconsiderate and ignorant and evil being gone. That’s exactly waht drunk driving is – that’s somebody deciding they get to choose to put everyone else in jeopardy of their life, my loved ones and yours. One time and I feel they should go to prison for a good long spell. But twice? Twice you are a waste of oxygen in my book and the world is better off without you. Certainly the driving public is.

You kind of need to know the blood alcohol content before you go jumping to these types of conclusions. The law being set at .08 is ridiculous. There are sooo many sober drivers out there that just plain suck, and they are far more of a danger than a good driver who may have a drink or two and fail the .08 test..So while I agree with your sentiment, in my opinion there’s a difference between “drunk” driving and the legal definition. We don’t know how drunk Alice was.

the woman can afford to have herself driven around in any kind of vehicle made by man, what is the problem

She can afford to drive drunk too. Why hire a driver? This will all be a fart in the wind once her lawyer gets to work.

The .08 limit comes from research using very realistic driving simulators and having lots of people operate them under the influence of differing amts of alcohol. I seriously doubt there are that many exceptions to the .08 rule.

I don’t really know, you may be correct. I know that you always hear that “2 drinks” will put you over the limit, and I just don’t think a couple drinks impairs most people. But, then again, the whole 2 drink thing may be a bit of a myth. I just entered some info into some online calculators, and it seems like I’d need to drink 4 or 5 in a couple hours to reach the limit, and I’m an average sized male. I wish ways to measure BAC were easier to come by, I’d be interested to know exactly what .08 feels like.

People make mistakes. The 1% as well as the 99%.

But the 1% is somehow so much better able to get past them.
