The Hilton turned Radisson turned Cosmopolitan will soon have a new look and a new name.
The 14-story hotel in downtown Fayetteville is set for a complete facelift once its new owners close the deal on the purchase.
A building permit recently issued to Thrash Development for a $7.1 million renovation and repair suggested that the deal would be finalized sooner rather than later.
During the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards banquet Monday evening, chamber president Steve Clark said he believed the project could begin as early as next week.
Expect a temporary closure followed by a reopening in fall 2012 with a possible four-star rating and a new name.

Another new name. How long will that one last before yet another name change?
I’ve always thought this building could take advantage of its high profile and views with bigger windows and balconies.
Probably won’t see anything like that, but iIm curious to see what kind of exterior changes they make. My guess is just new paint and a sign.
I hope the new paint isn’t that same stark white. Right now it looks like an instututional building instead of the best hotel in town. I thought the original color scheme was fine but I guess it is gone forever.
Another news outlet quotes Steve Clark as touting the “$15 million renovation of the Cosmopolitan” when talking about upcoming economic development.
I know the Flyer is correct, I just wanted to point out that exaggeration.
“Another news outlet”? There is no such thing. Well, almost.
Awesome, this will be very welcome. Also, continuous or scheduled complimentary shuttle service for guests to the Dickson/UofA area (or XNA if they’re feeling really ambitious) would go a long way to making the hotel much more enticing, especially business travelers.
Rental car agency on site as well? AFAIK there is only Enterprise and Hertz here in town and they frequently have all of their cars rented out, the rest of rental car folks are up at the airport. Having another rental car option in the downtown area attached to a hotel would be very attractive.
I’m liking the possible idea of putting a bar/lounge on the top floor. I’d imagine it to be great views of the city and the Ozarks.
The new owners shuttered the place abruptly. They fired everyone and cancelled all room reservations and event reservations less than two weeks before the holiday travel season. Very thoughtless. People are scrambling to find replacement jobs, rooms, and event facilities. This could have waited until after the new year. Not good for our community.
Thrash Development. Are you surprised?
I hope they’re quicker with the hotel than they are with their web site.
I though thrash was a good developer?
Since their web site is not built yet, I’m going by their name. Somehow “Thrash” does not convey the notion of thoughtful, judicious, carefully-considered, cautious or logical. Instead, it brings to mind violent, impulsive, out-of-control, careless and hasty– that is, qualities exemplified by the actions described by Vandelay.
I think this company did some Sheraton 4-Points hotels down on the gulf coast, so don’t be surprised if that is what it turns into.
When I drove by today, they had huge letters in the top floor windows spelling out “Furniture Sale”. I’m not sure I could be convinced to purchase a mattress from a hotel.
Free Bible with every nightstand!
Does anyone know the new name?
The Chancellor.
It appears to be gradually being painted gray.
The gray is the color of the EFIS finishing. Doubt that is the end color result.
