They alternate between rock/indie years (like last year) and jam years. Expect someone like the String Cheese Incident or a Grateful Dead derivative to headline.
Wakarusa is among the best music festivals in the country.
The location at Mulberry Mountain, Arkansas, is stellar.
See you at the festival again this year! I have attended every Wakarusa, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011… Ready for 2012!
Dgold, Honest Tunes Radio
I’ve been to Wakarusa five times in different guises: once as campground security (rolling around in golf carts and ejecting kids who had snuck in, also confiscating nitrus tanks), several times to cover the fest for radio, and have also been employed as a stage hand. I have been in both Kasas and Arkansas locations. I have been with VIP access to as much free Fat Tire and cold pizza as I wanted. I’ve shaken hands with Warren Haynes and hugged Wayne Coyne backstage, as well as The Black Keys, Bela Fleck, Les Claypool, Jeff Coffin, and others.
The festival is extremely primitive. Even more so since relocating.
My advice: if you’re interested in going for the MUSIC, pay a little extra and buy tickets after they announce the artist line-up, and then only go if they’ve scheduled one of your favorite bands to play & you don’t want to miss it so close to home. If you’re interested in going mainly to smoke pot or trip shrooms, or roll molly (or all of the above), like the majority of the little retards who attend this thing, buy early.
What do you mean by “primitive?”
They play rock. They haven’t yet discovered roll.
Heh.. Well, according to Not Sure, the majority of “little retards” at Wakarusa are there specifically to roll. Molly, that is.
