Merry Christmas, folks.

We’re not sure who decided it was a good idea to put Christmas on a Sunday this year (we already had that day off, weirdos). Whoever it is, they also decided to put New Year’s Day on a Sunday this year as well. Come on, calendar people.

Obviously, there’s not a whole lot happening in Fayetteville this weekend, but there are a few things to do. Here are those things.

Friday

As far as Christmas-themed shows go, TheatreSquared will perform It’s A Wonderful Life twice on Friday night (2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), and twice more on Saturday (also 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) at Nadine Baum Studios. Here’s the schedule.

Tunes-wise, George’s Majestic Lounge has two of the last Big Smith performances we’ll ever see in Fayetteville scheduled for Friday night. The band announced recently that they’d be calling it quits this spring. Both the happy hour show and the late-night set were approaching a sellout when last we heard. 2009 Telluride Band competition winners, The Hill Benders, are also on the bill.

Smoke & Barrel Tavern has local blues duo, Tyrannosaurus Chicken, and 90lb Wrench is back at Rogue.

Saturday

Saturday is Christmas Eve, and the folks at Greenhouse Grille have pulled out all the stops with an insanely-delicious-sounding special menu for their annual Christmas Eve Dinner. Local songwriter Teddy Sablon is set to perform.

Elsewhere, Dickson Street Pub has Jimmy Garrett, and Smoke & Barrel has a performance by DJ Shortfuze.

Sunday

Sunday is Christmas. Watch some football, open some presents, or hang out with your family or something.

We hope you have the merriest one of your life. Go for it.

Happy Birthday

Todd Gill, Andrew Dorman, Steve Wilkes, Dalene Paull, David Wertz, Jason Wright, Andrea Fournet, Marsha Woodruff, Stacy Roth-Lankford, Kimberly Wiles, Christine Jordan, Clint Brannon, Dan Freedle, Angela Swann, Jean Starr, John L. Sullivan, Jodie Franklin, Holly Wolf, David Franks, Gwendolyn Wind, Jennifer Graves, Colleen Swain-Palmer, Anne West, Corrinnia Brigg, Dave Jordan, Kouie Wilfried, Richard Patt, Kim Souza, and Jesus.

Just a friendly reminder to all Dickson St. patrons. Stock up on your adult beverages today and tomorrow for Sunday/Christmas Day, because no bar in Arkansas is open on Christmas Day. So go grab some Bailey’s and coffee and warm up watching the Christmas Day parade on tv. Merry Christmas and we will see you all out on Dickson Monday!

Fare Ye Well Big Smith. So many good times with that hillbilly band.

The “Farewell Fayetteville” Big Smith show has been added to the George’s site. Saturday, April 14th.

    *sigh* :(
