Wakarusa 2012 adds headliners Avett Brothers plus Ghostland Observatory and more

The Avett Brothers are set to headline the 2012 Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, it was announced today.

Lineup (3 of 3)

The news came in the final of three scheduled lineup announcements on the Wakarusa Facebook page. Two previous announcements were made Jan. 5 and 12.

Other acts named today include Ghostland Observatory, Slightly Stoopid, Matisyahu and The Travelin’ McCourys.

The bands will join Primus, Girl Talk, Umphrey’s McGee, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Pretty Lights, and over 60 other acts to round out the initial lineup.

We’ve heard no word on whether more acts will be announced in the coming months, but they are, it wouldn’t be a first. Minus the Bear was added to the 2011 list in late February and a few more additions came in late March following completion of the Waka Winter Classic.

This year’s event continues on Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas and runs from May 31 to June 3.

Full event passes start at $149. Two-day and three-day passes should be on sale soon. Full ticket information is available at wakarusa.com.

Here’s the list including the first two announcements. Thoughts?

Wakarusa 2012 lineup owns awesome. So pumped for my favorites, The Avetts, Tea Leaf Green, Del McCoury, The Motet, Railroad Earth, Heartless Bastards, The Heavy Pets, .. so many different styles.

Then all these bands I have been wanting to see, getting to see for the 1st time in NWA, like Edward Sharpe, Orgone, Toubab Krewe, Blitzen Traper, Gary Clark Jr., The Devil Makes Three.

Plus several acts I haven’t heard of, to check out and get introduced to something new. Nothing could be better than that.

I also like the staggered 3-part announcement, and the way Fayetteville Flyer compiled and displayed this with the 3 columns of band names. Makes it legible for a quicker overview than the colorful posters.

Rock on. See you all at Waka. Dgold, Honest Tunes Radio.

2nd on Tinariwen. The Avetts might be the best live band on the planet right now, so good score. Lance Herbstrong. EOTO. Balkan Beat Box is a riot. Not sure if I’ll make it this year, but those would be the reasons if I do.

Is Tinariwen actually the Tuareg group?
