David Johnson was chosen Friday to become the new executive director for the Fayetteville Public Library.

After nearly five months of interim leadership, the Fayetteville Public Library has a permanent executive director. The library’s board of trustees announced the decision Friday evening to hire David Johnson following a closed-door, executive session meeting that lasted about an hour and a half.

Trail goers at Lake Fayetteville are set to finally have a fully-paved, 5.5-mile loop around the lake. An upcoming project, which should begin this summer, will add one mile of concrete to the already paved trail which ends near Veterans Memorial Park.

The Fayetteville Historic District Commission is requesting volunteers to serve on its selection committee to help decide the winners of the 2012 Preservation Awards.

The Arkansas men’s basketball team defeated another top 20 opponent this season after a 66-64 win over No. 19 Michigan at Bud Walton Arena. The Hogs, now 14-5, face Auburn Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in Fayetteville.

In other Razorback news, a tweet from @ArkRazorbacks notes that Arkansas’ gymnastics team is ranked No. 1 in the nation this week for the first time in program history. The team set a school record Friday with a score of 197.225 in front of a record crowd of 5,537, and improved to 6-0 this season.
