The Washington County Historical Society‘s Heritage School will present Sweetheart’s Ball – Love Conquers All, a Civil War Sesquicentennial program, at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 in the Walker Community Room at the Fayetteville Public Library.
Sweetheart’s Ball is the Fayetteville love story of Unionist Elizer Harrison and Confederate Sallie Yeater. The story is derived from letters, journals, and other research and will be told by Raz Stirman, one of the town’s first Confederate volunteers.
Through the use of music, dance, living history and narration, the program explores how Fayetteville citizens of a divided town responded to the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas.

Activities also include a Grand March through the library and a performance of the Fayetteville Polka by Jackson Brandt and the Heritage School Dancers.
The program is part of the Beyond Battlefields: Making Sense of the American Civil War series the library is hosting in commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
The series is made available with funding through the American Library Association, the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
