Now open on College Avenue: The Whole Pet

  • by Todd Gill, Flyer Staff

The Whole Pet, a new store specializing in healthy food for dogs and cats, recently opened at 2423 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville.

Todd Gill, Fayetteville Flyer

“It’s all about healthy food,” says Jan McQuade, co-owner of The Whole Pet, a new pet food and supply store on North College Avenue in Fayetteville. “That’s our thing.”

McQuade and her husband Bill bring 39 years of pet business experience to their recently opened shop just a few doors down from Walgreens near the intersection of Township Street.

Jan, a Certified Master groomer and Bill, a former professional dog show handler, own two other stores in the region – Happy Tails with locations in Fort Smith and Van Buren.

Literature on the company’s website and inside brochures at the counter explains the couple’s philosophy on pet nutrition. They believe many health issues can be addressed, or completely avoided, by taking the time to know what to feed a pet.

Brands carried include Primal Raw Diets, Canidae, Nature’s Logic, Planet Organics and more.

The two were still overseeing a bit of interior work on the new space when we stopped by this week, including installation of new hardwood floors and a few grooming stations, but the store is open and filled with pet food, chews, toys and more.

Business hours are somewhat scattered at the moment, but McQuade said the store should be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday beginning next week.
