Ricks or Shipleys can’t compare to the daylight donuts on Martin Luther King those are the same people who have been hand making them here for 30 years. You can really taste the difference. Best Donuts

Yes, but we are all less heathy and fatter now and will apparently need to have a drive-thru donut place with curbsite service… so we don’t have to pull our fat arses out of our SUV’s and expend calories to get our “breakfast”… That being said- sounds yummy!

If there are raised islands at that intersection, they’d have to adapt them to meet ADA standards. They would probably also need to install signal controls for pedestrians.

Actually, they were hit at the intersection of North and College, where there are crosswalks. I’m talking about the next stoplight north, where Veteran’s Drive comes down the hill into the Evelyn Hills parking lot. Since there’s already a light, how much work could it be to program it and paint a crosswalk?

Unlikely to happen. Two VA employees were hit by a car at that intersection, and neither the VA nor City have shown the slightest interest in improving access or public safety in this location. Shame on them.

Yeah it would totally make sense for a better crossing there, to connect the UAMS and VA folks with the businesses in Evelyn Hills.

In 1980 or so, there was a waitress named Norma who worked early mornings at Bogey’s, single-handedly and capably addressing the needs of as many people as showed up for breakfast before 7 am. In 1993 or so, I went to the Daylight Donuts on MLK, and there she was, behind the counter. She remembered me, and was nonetheless happy to see me again.

@Tony Wappel: the old Shipley Donuts in Colonial Village was briefly taken over by Price’s Donuts in the late 70s or early 80s, I believe. Jim Price’s original store was north a few blocks, next door to Munchies. My sister Chandra and I worked for Jim cooking donuts and various other delicacies. I don’t know if the Colonial village folks were the same as the current Shipley folks, but I believe their donut sign was similar.
@glutenfree et al: I walk College Avenue daily between the VA and Sycamore. Sidewalks would be a welcome addition, as would a “real” crosswalk at the Evelyn Hills/Veteran’s Drive light.

Yep. As far as just volume of people that would use the sidewalks, No. Co Ave is about as good a ROI the city could get. You have Gregory Park, Woodland Jr. High and lots and lots of business activity. I see people struggling up and down the grass/curb cut mix out there every time I drive down that area.

A good project for the city would be from about where the sidewalk adjacent to the VA ends, and work that section up to Township. The sidewalks in that area are a joke, and mostly non-existent. There are two newish gyms, the ever-expanding Ozark Natural Foods, and lots of great local businesses in that stretch.

I get the feeling that maybe that project is too ambitious for the city to take on at once, or that there’s a hope of doing something bigger all at once. I know the pipe dream was about burying all the power lines and revamping that area. I wish A&P funds were available for beautification projects like that. Seems like it could be achieved as a combined effort: Transportation safety improvements paid for by highway/road funds, and landscape upgrades/power line revamping paid for by A&P funds, or something like that.

Maybe when the economy improves….

I think MLK has better sidewalks because a lot of it consists of newer developments which had to abide by newer planning and development regulations. N College developed hodge podge; really booming begining in the 60s with very few planning regs. (Fiesta Square (one time home of the 71 Drive-In) was considered way out of town then!) Of course, thats no excuse. Fayetteville could really boost North 71 if they’d put some more money into it like they did with College Avenue downtown. Same goes for South 71 and School Avenue.

N. College Avenue has a lot of potential. Lots of good local businesses there. And chains. Yep, chains. But still, its more “Fayetteville” than the other big street out west. Wish the city would invest in some improvements like sidewalks. That area has the worst sidewalk situation in the whole city and its not even close. MLK has much better sidewalks than NoCo.
