Legendary producer and former chairman of Stax Records Al Bell will give a lecture at the University of Arkansas Union Theatre at 6 p.m. tonight (Feb. 23).

Bell is known for his work with musical icons Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, the Staples Singers, Prince and the Emotions. He also served as the former President of Motown Records, and produced the 1993 Tag Team hit, “Whoomp! (There it is).”

Bell will discuss the crossroads of music and the Arkansas/Mississippi Delta and its cultural impact. The lecture will also include performances of Stax Records and Motown hits by the University Jazz Ensemble directed by Dr. James Greson.

The lecture is presented by the African and African American Studies Program of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Office of Diversity Programs of the Sam M. Walton College of Business

The event is free to attend, and open to the public. A reception with refreshments will follow the lecture.
