The smokestack series Imperial Stout is perhaps one of the finest beers I’ve ever tasted. I have 2 bottles aging next to a bomber of Deschutes Black Butte XXIII that I snagged in San Diego last summer.

Nice shout out to Real Ale, when we visit friends in Austin I make sure to bring back some of their beer

The smokestack saison and double-wide are most delicious. Their pale ale and single-wide also make me happy about life, but it is hard to find these in Houstonswamp.

Big fans of Real Ale down this way though….

i like most of the Boulevards, so i will check this out based on JT’s assessment. as for the Smokestack series, i love the quadruple ale. Bud Lite, like all the mass-produced american beers that i’ve tried, is watery swill — but it would be interesting to see a ‘professional’ assessment.

Boulevard generously donated several hundred dollars in product to an event my club put on during an oven-like weekend in KC a few years ago, so I’m a big fan of their culture. Their facilities are nice and fairly environmentally friendly, and they tend to have some unique brews on tap if you take their tasting tour.

I’m spoiled by the Smokestack series compared to their mainline year-rounders, but I appreciate their strong distribution locally. Wheat and Pale Ale especially are turning midwesterners and mid-Southerners onto beer choices other than watery lagers. “You want lite or heavy, hon?”

If it’s not Smokestack, Boulevard tends to bore me. Their standards have always been lackluster to my pallet, and I can usually find a better brewer producing the same/similar style.

Do you have any beers of the 5 rating or 3 rating in the pipeline? I’d love to read a Bud Lite (or Platinum even) review of a 1.
