Jose’s Mexican Restaurant has been closed since Jan. 10, but it looks like the long-time Fayetteville restaurant will be back soon and under new (but familiar) ownership.

Neal Crawford, who owned the restaurant since he bought it from original owner Joe Fennel in 2004, sold it back to Fennel and Jose’s Southwest Grill owner Doug Allen in a deal that Allen told us will be complete this week.

Allen and Fennel are also partners in a company called NWA Restaurant and Kitchen Supply.

Fennel opened the restaurant in May of 1980, and still operates Bordino’s just a few doors down on Dickson Street.

Allen told us he hopes to return Jose’s to the “good old days” when Fennel originally owned it.

“We’re going to take it back to the fun Jose’s,” he said.

Allen said he hopes to have the restaurant open again by June 1.
