ESPN’s GameDay visited Fayetteville on Nov. 11, 2006 for a game between Arkansas and Tennessee. Arkansas won 31-14.

Update: The results are in over at ESPN. Looks like a few of your suggestions made it onto the SEC blog.
About a week ago, ESPN SEC blogger Edward Aschoff began a series of posts looking for feedback on what to do in SEC college towns on a game day from a local perspective.
Ashcroff started with posts on SEC-newcomers Missouri and Texas A&M, and after soliciting feedback from Crimson Tide fans earlier this week, he’s asking Arkansas fans what to do on game day in Fayetteville.
From the blogpost:
I took my first trip to Hog country last fall and had a blast. The scenery was great, the people were more than friendly and the food was delicious. For those of you who haven’t been there, take the time because you won’t regret it.
So Arkansas fans, let us know what to do when we’re in town. It will be very helpful for Mizzou and Texas A&M fans who haven’t had the opportunity to make it to Fayetteville. And I’m sure there are other SEC fans who haven’t been there, as well.
Ashcroft is looking for feedback on eateries, sightseeing, and nightlife in Fayetteville, and is asking locals to email suggestions to the ESPN mailbag.
Give him some ideas, and while you’re at it, leave a comment below telling us what you suggested to ESPN. We’ll pick a random comment and send the winner a free t-shirt from Bearstate Supply.
How to enter
Leave a comment with your suggestion on what an out-of-towner should do in Fayetteville on game day.
What you’ll win
One t-shirt of your choice (design, color, size) from the Bearstate Supply online store. (Hoodies not included)

- Contest is open until 12 p.m. CST on Monday, March 19.
- Leave a valid e-mail address when commenting since that’s how we’ll contact you if you’ve won.

I told the Herman’s Ribhouse on College, Grub’s for after the game, Bordino’s for a nicer after the game (second best steak I’ve had in my life behind Harry Carray’s in Chicago).
Food and drink downtown. It’s walking distance to the stadium and you can sample delicious beer brewed on site at the Hog Haus brewpub (Dickson Street) and have an amazing burger at Hugo’s (Block Avenue).
Spend time on the Fayetteville square at the farmer’s market!
apologize on-air & online for their ongoing, unjustified, Arthur Blank-fueled derision of Coach Bobby Petrino.
^^this.

brunch at Ella’s then loading the dogs in the car and visiting the dog park
First go look at some real estate. Then talk to your job and see if you will be able to satellite from Fayetteville. If not, get on the web on the balcony of Hog Haus and start looking for local jobs. Go to some tailgates around Bud Walton and put down enough beer to make your ideas for blogging more interesting and really bring out the best in Fayetteville. Try to meet a nice SEC girl who could be the one. When game time comes, don’t sit in the dull press area, find a way into the student section. Post game, stumble across campus on your way to Dickson St. I could give you more advice, but from here on out, if things go right, memories will be hazy anyway.
Places to eat – Buritto Loco/Columbia Mex or Hugo’s, if you come in early take a nice drive to Terra Studios or Eureka Springs (love both places).
Hit the Farmer’s Market on the Square (do not wear your team’s colors/logo), then hit Penguin Ed’s for breakfast (I recommend the tacos) and possibly lunch (I recommend anything).
Don’t you have work to do?
Bottoms up!!! then Rogers Wreck….. make em feel real classy like.
Catfish Hole or one of our fine gentleman’s clubs
Doe’s Eat Place, Hugo’s
I don’t think the people coming to football games and/or ESPN staff would appreciate all the dogs at the farmers market…just sayin’
What is your problem with dogs? You hate dogs or something? Dogs are what the farmers market is all about!
Farmer’s Market? I heard this year its going to be called the Dogger’s Market FWIW.
When Arkansas’ men’s basketball team first rose to prominence under Eddie Sutton in the 70s, the only team that gave them much of a threat in the old SWC was the dreaded Longhorns of Abe Lemons (until Houston landed a big Nigerian named Hakeem Olajuwon). Abe was a colorful chap, and known to bait the refs at times. As the story goes, one night Abe got riled up and during a break in the action addressed a referee…
Abe: Ref, can I get a technical foul for what I’m thinking?
Ref: No, coach, I can’t give you a T for what you’re thinking.
Abe: Good, because I think you’re an *******.
@ Innarested Observer: Though I will use your Abe Lemons adage in one form or another every day until the day I die from slipping on a lego, I feel that your comment is ad hominem.
Really? I just thought it was an interesting Razorbacks-related story…
If u comment a lot here, see this comment (attn: Innarested Observer) about Sheet Fort,

Food:
Hugos!
Emilia’s Kitchen on Dickson
Taste of Thai
Arkansas isn’t just BBQ
To Do:
Ride the bike trails – Scull Creek all the way
Lake Fayetteville trail
Go to a concert of a local band (Three Penny Acre)
Go and check out some roller derby!
Food: Hog Haus, Petra Cafe, Pesto Cafe, Bordino’s, Fresco Cafe and Pub, Feltner Brothers, Hammontrees, Doe’s Eat Place
Local Beer! Hog Haus, Kingfish (Jesse Core), West Mountain, Tanglewood (they’ll be brewing by the time football season rolls around)
Bars: Brewski’s, Dickson Pub, Wine Cellar, 21st Ammendment, Smoke & Barrel
To Do: Walton Arts Center, TheatreSquared, SoNA, Farmer’s Market, Sound Warehouse, Mustache, First Thursday, bike trails
Food:
Burgers – Hugo’s or Grubbs. Hugo’s burgers taste the best, but Grub’s burgers are still great, way bigger, much better fries, and the fry dip… *drooling*
Thai food – Thep Thai or Twin Kitchen are the best in NWA.
Sushi/Japanese – Meji hands down best in NWA!!! If you have never had fresh wasabi (which most places don’t serve. That green paste sushi places call wasabi is NOT wasabi, google it) order it here! It is like a drug!
If you like chicken wings, Hog Haus on Dickson street has the best I have ever had in my LIFE! I usually don’t care for battered wings but… Just wait until you try them. They are just the regular wings on the appetizer menu. Also many other things are good at Hog Haus. Some people will say they are a little over priced but I don’t mind. The food is good and I really like the scenery. Especially upstairs or on the balcony is absolutely the best spot on Dickson!
Really Classy High Priced food – Vetro 1925 or James at The Mill. Neither one are quite as good as what you pay for, but it is NWA. They are still the best in NWA. I’ve had much better food in Dallas and Florida at “upscale” restaurants like these that was even cheaper.
Outdoors:
bike the paved Scull Creek Trail leisurely. If you don’t have a bike, rent one for pretty cheap from the Fayetteville visitors center on the square.
Drive the Pig Trail!!!
Go canoe the elk river! The water is usually up most of the year.
Go to one of Fayetteville’s many parks. My favorite is Gulley Park. The rest are listed at accessfayetteville.org
Play disc golf at lake Fayetteville.
Walk around Dickson street and UA campus.
Nightlife:
Dickson street. That’s all you need to know.
They need to have a home brewed beer at Tiny Tim’s while they’re hitting up the Block Street/Square area. Afterwards, they could step in the Visitor’s Center or have a nice dinner at Vetro.
They should have a taco tasting on Dickson. Dickson is best know for its wide variety of Tacos!!!! Then go visit all the chicken establishements on 6th street aka MLK… muy bueno! Taco Pollo!
Road trip around the surrounding environs like Terra Studios (art colony to the southeast side of town), Eureka Springs, Crystal Bridges of Bentonville, then center back in to Fayetteville and the many in-town suggestions above.
perhaps a trip Down the mulberry
Baum then straight to Does
Hugo’s for food then on to Dickson for a fun filled evening….Can’t go wrong!
I can’t believe no one has mentioned Mama Dean’s yet. Of course, it was name-checked on air by ESPN last year (don’t remember what game), so it may not count.
little bread for breakfast.
Hugos and Geraldis. Farmers Market, dickson street bars, etc.
/thread.
Looks like a few of your suggestions made it onto the SEC blog. Here’s their post.
