Detour alert: A section of Frisco Trail will be closed on Monday, April 2

  • by Todd Gill, Flyer Staff
    on March 30, 2012 at 4:42 pm

Two apartment buildings just feet away from Frisco Trail are set to be demolished requiring temporary closure of the trail between Maple and Lafayette streets.

Todd Gill, Fayetteville Flyer

Update: Expect a second closure, possibly on April 9, to allow demolition of the final building adjacent to the trail.

Frisco Trail will be closed between Maple and Lafayette streets from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 2.

Trail users should use Gregg Avenue as a detour.

The closure is necessary to allow for demolition of a Maple Street Apartments building immediately adjacent to the trail.

The building is one of several structures being removed to make way for 555 Maple, a 183-unit student housing project set to take up the entire block.

Redevelopment of the property will ultimately result in trail improvements to that section and include widening of the trail and installation of trail lights.

Trail users are asked to use caution during construction.

Mike P., looks like just one day? That’s great that the trail will have improvements too.

The intersection looks so weird with those buildings gone.

I agree. When I’m running on the trail and I come over the hill, I hardly recognize where I am without that landmark.
