Arkansas adds #GOHOGS hashtag to field for spring game

It looks like Razorback Stadium is on Twitter. Actually, make that the other way around.

Following in the footsteps of two other colleges, Arkansas has added a hashtag to the field at Razorback Stadium for Saturday’s spring football game.

A #GOHOGS hashtag was painted in white at the 25-yard line on the southeast and northwest sides of the field.

Mississippi State painted a giant #HAILSTATE hashtag in their end zone for last season’s Egg Bowl against Ole Miss. Last week, Michigan painted #GOBLUE on its field for this season’s spring game.

“The hashtag on the field is just another example of our commitment to engaging our fans with the Razorbacks through social media,” said athletics Jeff Long. “It is a simple way for our fans to show their support for our team and the student-athletes representing the University of Arkansas.”

We’re not sure why the more commonly used #WPS hashtag wasn’t chosen, but Women’s Professional Soccer league officials are probably happy about the change.

Long said with Arkansas having one of the largest social media followings in the country among intercollegiate athletic programs, his staff will continue to work on ways to build fan followings on Twitter and Facebook.

As of Thursday afternoon, the @ArkRazorbacks Twitter had 36,207 followers and the program’s official Facebook page was up to 210,558 Likes.

The Red-White spring game begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21 and admission is free. The game will be aired on CST and available worldwide on ESPN3.com for those outside of the CST viewing area.
