Glad the chic from Dreamfast did not win, not sure why she was even nominated. DAWN CATE is the best anywhere around here!

NAMA’s are a joke……The same people win every year……..I think its pretty rediculous you can’t win unless you send in a band photo and MP3….. Joke…. Country band….SHB? where’s the talent? She needs a couple voice lessons…. If I hear her cover White Freitliner again, I’m gonna vomit. Who the F is Randell Shreve? I’m out all the time and have never heard him or his brother. Congrats to Carter Sampson and Matt and Gus Smith. Those are well deserved awards. NAMA’s, get a new program cause the current one sucks ass.

you are a liar if you say you’re out “all the time” and have never heard of him. I make it out to Dickson once every 2 months and their names are plastered all over the place!!

Well, I had a blast as a fly on the wall at the NAMA’s last night. It was so much fun. Lots of hard work done by lots of talented people! For me to pull up this stuff just saddens me! How can people be such SORE LOSERS? if you lost a NAMA or just at life, why would you want to talk so negatively about other people? They have put in a ton of hard work to even get recognized!
Obviously, you need to concentrate more on your music and less on other people! Why would someone take their time to be so out right rude and try to hurt people’s feelings? I also may not agree with some of the people that won, but that is my own personal opinion. I prefer to share the positive, rather than the negative. I think Sarah Hughes has a GREAT voice! Maybe she can give you some voice lessons? She obviously gets you to go to her shows if you know what she covers……
Yes, I am sure the NAMA’s are a popularity contest. So is Student Council, choosing sports teams in grade school and the damn Presidential election…….sometimes it just hurts to not be noticed!

rigged again! wow. how pointless. the exact same people have been winning for 10 years. at some point isn’t everyone going to question who is counting these votes? you will never win unless your friend works for the namas.

  5. bob says:
    Monday, Apr 23, 2012 at 9:01 am

im also going to make a prediction that these people will all win next year….even if they don’t play music anymore.

Wow – way to support your local music scene. Instead of just complaining about the awards why don’t you give some constructive criticism? What would you do to change the NAMA’s??

Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners – because that’s what this is supposed to be about.

  7. Captain America says:

It’s hard to defend the NAMA’s. It’s lost most, if not all, of the credibility it may have once had. There’s no doubt it needs overhauling. Glaring category “mix ups” are kind of silly with such a small music community. NAMA seems more out of touch yearly. But, whatever…it’s all in fun right? The “scene” is the scene. It’s small. I can see why there’s redundancy in the nominations. It’s reflective of the music community. A bit static still. And Sherry, the band photo/mp3 is actually a good idea. It at least sets the bar for inclusion to a minimum level. Also, while I’m not a huge fan, Randall Shreve is probably the most visible rock musician in town. Actually, I think we may have just found the one person who is “out all the time” who has never heard of the brothers Shreve. Congrats!

When you say you are out ll the time, if you are talking about out at the White Star then no you probably have never heard of the Shreve Brothers.
Congrats Amyh on your nomination. You work your butt off!
Congrats to all of the nominees. Even the ones that keep getting nominated year after year. Just means you keep working hard, have lots of fans and have someone badass booking for you that keeps you out there in the public.
Thanks to everyone with the NAMA’s for hosting such a fun night every year and giving recognition to our local musicians!

I am not sure how a fan-voted awards show can be accused of being rigged. Think about it…when you play music in a town as long as the Shreveses and Sarah Hughes, you earn a pretty large and loyal fan base. Of course these artists will continue to win contests based on the fan votes.

I am not sure if talent is considered in the NAMA’s – but I also guess there are two arguments to this. 1) the more talented bands have used said talents to earn more fans, and thus more NAMA votes – or 2) this winning bands, regardless of talent level, just have more friends and/or more name recognition and garner not only their fan votes, but votes from those who only know the band via name recognition. I was guilty of this on my own ballot. As I am sure many others here were too.

Under argument 2, the Shreveses and the Hugheses win every time.

But who cares? We live in a community where the premiere music venue in Fayetteville was rented out, gave free beer and food to the music community, and allowed us all to mingle with one another for a few hours on a Sunday night (though, I was bad about the mingling part as I was going back and forth from George’s to Smoke & Barrel to watch the screening of The Last Waltz – piss on you, Robbie Robertson!!). I feel fortunate to live in such a community. And I enjoyed being exposed to a LOT of other music that I do not usually see on Dickson (Afrique Aya, for example).

However, I am also out on Dickson a lot, and those groups who won are definitely putting in the time and effort into playing out, earning more fans, and likely earning eventual NAMA votes. Being a sour-puss about the NAMA’s flabbergasts me. And this coming from someone in a band that was nominated and did not win.

Even if there was a panel of judges who chose winners (i.e. the Grammy’s) – people would still complain. So I guess we’re damned either way. I had fun last night, and if nominated again next year, I’ll go again, without complaint, eat free food, maybe mingle a bit, catch some new sounds, and likely get skunked (again!). We should all feel fortunate that we get the chance to do it once a year.

Congrats to all the nominees and winners. See you on your respective stages…

Just being nominated was an honor and getting to talk with many talented musicians around this area and see some of them perform was a blast!
We’re still a somewhat new band and being recognized could set us up for a world of possibilities!
Thank you Rock It Music Week and the NAMAs for putting together such a great ceremony.
Congrats to all the winners and hey, there’s always next year.

  19. Geoff Baker says:
    Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Hey there! this is Geoff from Randall Shreve and The Sideshow. Can’t say thank you enough to all of the voters, fans, nominees, winners and all of the people who did not win or were not nominated. You are all part of a music scene that is incredibly supportive and inspirational to us and we would not want to call any other place our home believe me. For all of you that like to act really big behind your keyboards let me raise a few points:
    1. We want to quit our day jobs and do nothing but make music, in order to do this you must treat music as a business as much as we hate to. If we played every night on Dickson we would overexpose ourselves to our favorite most loved market. Nobody wants to see the same band every night. Our shows would go from 400 people to 40 in a heartbeat. Plus I play with 3 other bands at any given time, don’t talk to us about not playing enough.
    2. The Namas ARE a popularity contest. That’s the point of having online voting. You play, win fans, then ask them to vote. We’ve been playing a lot out of town cause we want to be successful. These new out of town fans vote and those results are in our favor. We apologize for working so very hard to be successful. Believe me the NAMA doesn’t always go to the best band. Surf De Soleil didn’t win a thing, while in my opinion they are one of the best bands in the region. Did they cause a stink? No. Instead that band of High School age rockers were happy just to be nominated, they are mature enough to know the NAMA’s are more of a celebration not a contest.
    3. If you hate our music that’s fine, but no one can argue our work ethic. If you’d like to come to a rehearsal and see for yourself or follow us when we are on the road be my guest, I guarantee you will have trouble keeping up.
Each year all of the bands in town get better, not one of them deserves the kind of disrespect little twerps who don’t get what they want can type anonymously. Support local artists whether you enjoy them or not, you never know where the next twist might take them, and you never know how hard they work.
Also we are nominated for two IMA’s, those are International Independent Music Awards. It would seem the rest of the world happens to be trending the same way the NAMA’s did in our favor. What a coincidence. God bless all of our local talent, and all of you people who like to knock them should really grow up. Also I know my grammar sucks so correct it all you want, I’m still cooler than you.

    • Alissa says:
      Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012 at 2:34 pm

      I friggin love you Geoff.

I agree with everything you have said. You are one of the hardest working bands I know, ya’ll deserve the awards. I’m proud of you guys :)

Can’t wait till the next show!

    • Sarah Hughes says:
      Friday, Apr 27, 2012 at 11:51 pm

Thanks for sticking up for us, Geoff. The NAMA’s are a good thing, guys! Why on earth would anyone have anything bad to say about bringing the NWA music community together? Sure, I’ve won a lot of these awards and so has my band, but I’ve lost a lot of them, too. I’m incredibly grateful for the ones I’ve won and very happy to be nominated in the categories I’ve lost. It should be a celebration of how lucky we are to have this type of community instead of a chance to insult the people that beat you out of an award.

As far as “Sherry” goes, that is by far one of the rudest things any one has ever said about me, that I know of, since high school. I feel sorry for you, girl…..honestly. If you don’t like our cover of White Frieghtliner and think I need voice lessons, then don’t come to our shows. Maybe you’ll win next year. Good luck to you. Hopefully things will get better for you (whoever you are).

that’s cool, geoff, but next time be the bigger man and quit saying things of people like “act really big behind your keyboards” because it makes you sound quite hostile.

  21. glutenfree says:
    Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Randall Shreve is talented. His music might not be your bag, but the guy obviously works hard and is talented.

  22. Geoff Baker says:
    Wednesday, Apr 25, 2012 at 9:51 pm

I’m sorry if it offends, but I will always be hostile towards those who question the validity of what I and the people who I love do. Part of being the bigger man is not hiding your identity when you have something to say. I did not physically threaten anyone. I would find this a pretty laughable thing to fight about, as most things are. However I find spineless anonymous insults to be very annoying, especially when aimed towards musicians who pour their hearts into what they do. My challenge is simply for people to state their names so that we may know exactly who it is we need to prove wrong. There is always an open invitation from me and anyone in the band to those who would slander us to come out, let us buy you a beer and convince you why posting negative things about us is simply something that is done out of ignorance. People have taken us up on this offer before. No blood has been spilled I assure you.

  23. Bailey from Well Well Well/3B Radio says:
    Monday, Apr 30, 2012 at 11:17 pm

Whoa! Lots-a-hatin going on here! I don’t dig that at all seeing as how we’re all small local bands busting our asses all year long to give you something to hate on later! Congratulations to everyone who was nominated. I’m really happy to see a healthy, vivacious music scene in a place you wouldn’t expect to see one. I really think Fayetteville has something special here.

To the people talking so much crap about bands; stfu.

To my friends in bands; you guys rock and I love you all! You’re part of the reason I am still motivated to keep rockin every year!

To my band mates; you guys totally rule! We didn’t win, but we sure gave it hell in 011!

To everyone else; look out for our new album dropping this summer called, “The West is Dead.” We’re pretty damn proud of it and we think you’re going to love it! Keep supporting your local rockers. Without you, it’s just us(and we’d probably be okay with that, but it’s nice to see you at shows…okay, it’s mostly just us.)
