I have to agree on giving funds to some UA department for a flag football game, since they should get that from the savings on the football coach's salary. I am inclined to agree on the WAC request. Aren't these funds for start-up not continuing operations of a program that got $20,000 last year?

Awesome! Thanks for the additional info on Artist's Alliance. I'm just tired of seeing things funded on a high dollar level that seem to be big enough to fund some things on their own. I mean, bang for your buck: you could get a dozen smaller events, like the Little Craft Show, for what, say, Artosphere is asking for. I know no one is guaranteed funding, and also know they obviously won't all get what they ask for, but I just have an eye roll every time I see these events from the WAC and u of A apply.

I don't think an event request should be written off simply because of the attached name. As a resident of this city, I'd certainly appreciate at least some consideration of events that make life more enjoyable for us, but I think requests for HMR funds should first be evaluated on their potential for bringing people to Fayetteville who will stay in hotels/motels and eat at restaurants, thus increasing overall HMR collections.

As for the artist's expansion plans, I can't say for sure, but I've heard they're considering leasing space somewhere inside the GCM building on the southwest corner of the square. I think we might have a contributor working on a story about that this week.

Right off the bat: nix the Walton Arts Center and the U of A programs. Those two entities take up entirely too many of our tax dollars.
Next: what's the juice on the Arts Alliance? Did i miss the location they were looking at?
