Police attempt to negotiate with an unresponsive man sitting on a ledge on top of the Garland Center parking deck Wednesday afternoon.

Update: 12:08 a.m. UATV’s Ashley Saldana and Katie Simms are both reporting the man is now safe and off the ledge.
Update: 11:55 p.m. UATV reporter Katie Simms appears to be providing live coverage on Twitter (@ksimmsua). According to Simms, the man is still on the ledge.
Update: 9:50 p.m. Lt. Crain said the man is still mostly unresponsive. The Arkansas Traveler is reporting the man is a Chartwells Dining employee. UATV has a video interview with Lt. Crain.
University of Arkansas Police are attempting negotiations with a possibly suicidal man who is sitting on a ledge atop the Garland Center parking garage on Garland Avenue in Fayetteville.
UAPD spokesman Lt. Gary Crain said the man has so far been unresponsive to negotiators since police first responded at about 4:45 p.m.
As of 7 p.m., no streets had been blocked off, but authorities were working to keep crowds of onlookers from congregating below the scene.

My first thought was he’s got to be a student. Semester’s winding down, finals are looming ahead. There were numerous times in college I felt like flinging myself out the window of my dorm room was the only option. I hope he’s okay and seeks counseling if he needs it. College is supposedly the best time of your life but it is also one of the scariest in my opinion.
