A handful of notable bands are headed to Tulsa this summer including Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, Tenacious D, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, and a KISS/Motley Crue show.
Of course, notable is in the ear of the beholder so instead of just listing our favorites, we poked around a few of the major venue websites today and came up with about 60 performances scheduled in Tulsa over the next few months.
For more info on each show, including ticket prices and availability, just click the venue link above each list.

I had not realized Waters was in Tulsa…
And Phish is going to OKC in August.
I highly recommend experiencing The Wall. Saw Waters preform this show a while back in KC and it was well worth it, outstanding production and the only concert where I felt a lump in my throat due to the visual display, quite moving.
Holy cow, Tulsa is on fire this summer! There are at least ten shows on that list I would love to see!
Now, if only we had a sizable venue in town that could book some of those acts. (ideally, with a booking agent who wasn’t wearing blinders 24/7.) Sigh…….
Death Cab for Cutie will also be in Springfield on July 9th at the Gillioz Theater as well as Primus on June 1st right before Wakarusa. I went to see Lisa Lampinelli up there and that theater is awesome! Wish we had multiple venues like Tulsa and Springfield down here.
I’m usually “that guy” when it comes to seeing concerts in large-ish venues that don’t allow for much of an interpersonal connection with the band, But I bought two tickets to the Bon Iver concert based on a show at the Uptown in Kansas City last fall. It was by far the best concert I saw last year…and that includes all the sets I saw at South By Southwest n 2011.
I prefer small clubs to “seated” arenas (I want to be up front, sweating and pumping my fist right in front of the band), and tickets under $20 (for example, the first time I saw Wilco it was opening night of the Being There tour in Raleigh, NC – I think I paid $6 for my ticket – so seeing them at the AMP for >$40 is reason to sit that show out). But that Bon Iver show in KC last fall justified my getting over myself and my self-imposed concert “rules.” If there are tickets to this show left, I highly recommend it.
Tenacious D is going to put on a great show on July 21! This is a must-see concert! They premiered their music video for “The Roadie’ today. I love the D. http://smarturl.it/roadievideo
I had the pleasure of seeing the D (along with ween and the F Lips ;-) ) at Red Rocks several years back, and they were so good! Jack emanates personality on stage just as he does on screen. Highly recommended!
