It’s been nearly 20 years since Wilco rose from the ashes of influential alt-country band, Uncle Tupelo.
Since then, the Chicago-based band has done some extremely influential work of their own.
They’ve received mountains of critical acclaim for their eight studio albums, won two Grammy Awards for their 2004 release, A Ghost is Born, and have been nominated for six others since their 1999 collaboration with folk artist Billy Bragg, Mermaid Avenue.
They’re bad mammer-jammers, and they’re coming to Fayetteville for a show at the Arkansas Music Pavilion on May 10.
Also, we’ve got four pairs of tickets to give away to the show. Try to win ‘em.

What you’ll win
Four (4) lucky winners will win two (2) tickets each to the Thursday, May 10 performance by Wilco at the Arkansas Music Pavilion.

- Contest is open until 12 p.m. CST on Thursday, May 3

I am going to go with Being There.
It was the record that helped Jeff Tweedy and Wilco get out of the shadow of Uncle Tupelo (though, I would have been content if they would have stayed there a little longer). AM is a close second for me. But it felt like a rushed effort, and since it featured Brian Henneman (of the Bottle Rockets) on guitar for the recordings, it wouldn’t be until Being There that Jay Bennet made it to a record with Wilco. I will shout from the rooftops that the Tweedy/Bennett/Stirrat/Coomer/Egan version of Wilco (circa 1996) was the finest lineup. TONS of energy, and the world was theirs to conquer.
Now Jeff Tweedy writes songs about folding laundry.

Absolutely Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I can’t believe it was ten years ago! My coworkers and I all left the office and crossed the street to the little record store to buy it on opening day — because this album was a major cultural event in my former hometown of Chicago.
The new album The Whole Love is probably my favorite album. With YHF being a close second!
