Smoke & Barrel Tavern to host summer video game tournaments

Super Mario Kart cover art

Back in 1992, some geniuses in Japan created one of the greatest video games of all time.

Twenty years later, some local geniuses are planning a competition featuring that amazing video game here in Fayetteville.

In other words, it’s Super Mario Kart tournament time. Yeow!

The fun starts at 10 p.m. tonight (May 16) at Smoke & Barrel Tavern.

Smoke & Barrel co-owner Evan McDonald said he’s partnered with Trade Wind Games and plans to host more video game tournaments this summer and is seeking suggestions for other classic games that folks might like to play.

Yeah we need a list of upcoming games so I can brush up on my skills. I’m pretty confident that I’m a horrible Mario Kart driver now.

As a two-time Mario Kart tournament champion, I’m saddened that I will not be able to attend / kick everyone’s rear-side. Koopa Troopa!

Wish I could make it to this. For future events, I hope they bring on some Smash Brothers! N64 or Gamecube version, doesn’t matter.
