Thousands of residents filled the street, sidewalks and local businesses along Block Avenue Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville for the 2012 Block Street Block Party.
The second-year event was expanded this year to include more bands, vendors, and beer gardens stretching from Dickson Street all the way to Mountain Street on the downtown square.
Our dunking booth, which was co-sponsored by Hugo’s, included City Council members, politicians and other local folks who volunteered to get wet for charity. Thanks to everyone involved, we raised over $600 for Feed Fayetteville.
But ours was just one of many events during today’s party. Here are some photos we took while we weren’t staffing the dunk tank. For a few more photos, see the entire set on our Flickr page.

Best event of the year! Thanks so much to all the Block St businesses that support this, the people that organize this (especially the delightful Hannah Withers of Little Bread Co.), The Flyer for your promotion and documentation, and to all the Fayettevillians that come out and make this a fantastic event!
I agree, Cassy. This was one of the great local events of the year and a fun celebration of our wonderful community! Those sad folks who go around saying Fayetteville is withering and without soul should have been there yesterday, because nobody was buying their pitiful nonsense.
Does anyone else think we just change the name of the road to Block St? I mean, it does have a lot more mmph than Block Ave. Block Party, and I’m not sure any Fayettevillian has ever referred to it as such. Either way, irony isn’t lost. Great event yesterday, it reminds us all of why this town is so freakin’ cool to be in
Doesn’t fit city planning…. Avenues run north and south in this town, and streets run east and west. That’s the standard for most towns, actually.
weird. i’ve always thought it was block street and not avenue.
Good pictures, Flyer crew.
I had a good time and hope you all did as well.
Thanks for all the pics. I didn’t get to go but I’m really going to try to next year. Thanks!
Thanks so much for having me! I was honored to take part!
Great event for adults AND children. As far as my count goes, I did not see one T-Shirt that said “If you can read this, the b**** fell off”.
Had a GREAT time! What happened to the hot air balloon rides though? I was forced (FORCED!) to drown my sorrows in delicious can after can of Miller Lite in light of absence of the balloon rides.
Fayettevillians: we will try again next year. He said it was just too gusty, and there a was a big front moving in through Oklahoma. It wasn’t dying down until just too late. He sat in the parking lot for a few hours, but said it just wasn’t safe. He was afraid he’d end up against an electric line. We’re sorry for that. It was a tough pill to swallow at the end of such a great day. But it seems we all enjoyed ourselves, anyway!
No worries! We assumed it was probably weather related. Our group still had a great time!! Kudos to a fantastic event! :)
Great pics!
Great event, big success, thank you Block Street Block Party People! Dgold Honest FM
The block street block party was awesome!! Best fun I’ve had in a really long time. Great music, activities, people, and booths! Everything was put together wonderfully and I really enjoyed it! GREAT time!
SO much like SXSW! SO RAD! love love love it!!!!
Oh Fayetteville, just when I think I CANNOT miss you anymore than I already did – you pull this stunt. You glorious wonderful place.
Flyer guys: thank you for all your support and participation at this event. You guys are as Fayetteville as it gets. Thanks for dunking, shooting pix, and staying all night!
Aw, shucks, BlockStreet. Thanks to you for throwing such a great party.
I didn’t make it down. What does the Hugo’s tshirt with the unicorn say?
Oh, it’s just a hamburger riding a unicorn, throwing out smaller hamburgers to the world. It says “Making it rain since 1977.” No big deal.
Brought a tear to my eye.
