Washington County Democrats will hold a grand opening celebration and fundraising event Tuesday, June 12 for their 2012 campaign headquarters near downtown Fayetteville.

The “Twenty for Twenty” event signifying the 20-week countdown to the Nov. 6 general election will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the office at 440 N. College Ave. (between Lafayette and Maple streets).

This year marks the earliest headquarters opening in the Washington County Democrats history and the office will serve as a meeting location for the organization as well as an operational office for candidates at the county, state and federal levels.

“This is the perfect location to execute successful campaigns for our candidates in Washington County,” said Tyler Clark, Chairman of the Washington County Democrats. “We chose the 1,500-square-foot office for our operational headquarters because of the high visibility on College Avenue, its proximity to the U of A, Fayetteville High School, the Courthouse and the Square.”

The office will be open from around 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday as volunteers are available. During the summer, the emphasis will be on training, voter registration and will serve as an operational headquarters for various campaign-related events including voter registration barbecues planned at Wilson and Gulley parks. The 28 Democratic candidates on the ballot in Washington County will have the opportunity to use the office throughout the campaign season for various activities such as volunteer recruitment, fundraising and voter contact.

Clark said he expects over 75 Democrats to attend the grand opening event. Local volunteers will be grilling hotdogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers for participants for a $20 suggested donation.

For more information about the event or any other inquiries about the Washington County Democrats call the office at 479-856-6127 or call Tyler Clark at 479-841-7279.
