The Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission on Wednesday announced the hiring of Hot Springs native Matt Clement as its new operations manager.

Clement, who will make $52,000 a year in his new position, is a graduate of Henderson State University where he majored in business, and previously worked as the assistant director of gaming and director of entertainment for Oaklawn Park.

The commission unanimously approved the new position during its April meeting and agreed on a $48,000 to $58,000 salary range.

“Matt comes to us from one of the state’s premiere tourist attractions, and with his experience and versatility, I think he’ll be a great addition to our staff and the Northwest Arkansas community,” said Marilyn Heifner, the commission’s executive director. “He brings a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to our team. The staff and I look forward to working with him.”

Clement joined Oaklawn in 2008 just as the racetrack completed a major building expansion to accommodate its burgeoning electronic gaming business.

Clement has a wife, Ashley, and a daughter, Alexis.

Did Matt replace somebody else at A&P? Or is this a new position created?

That’s a pretty decent chunk of change. Do we need an Operations Manager? How have we gotten along without one thus far? Seems like we have quite a few paid positions down at the ole A&P office. Some of them pretty well paid.

Yeah, I wish I had seen the job posting for that one… there was a job posting, right?
