Fayetteville police announced the third in a series of directed traffic enforcements at select areas around town.
Officers will monitor traffic on Wedington Drive between Shiloh Avenue and Salem Road on Wednesday, June 27 and Thursday, June 28.
The idea is to bring awareness to drivers regarding traffic collisions and to try and reduce the number of accidents.
Police officers will utilize marked and unmarked vehicles during the directed enforcement and will be looking for the following violations:
- Following too close
- Improper use of center lane
- Failure to yield
- Failure to signal turn or lane changes
- Improper right/left turn
- Disobeying traffic signals
Officials say these violations are the most common contributing factors to traffic accidents in Fayetteville.

They should have a field day with this stretch; probably write enough tickets to cover any budget shortfalls in just a few hours.
Yep. Although they could end up with a surplus is they just extend the area over the highway… They could even go as far as ticketing people who stop on the highway during rush hour when trying to get off the exit.
Guess I am trying to say that a better design for the area would help reduce a lot of the accidents.
Absolutely, the overpass needs replaced and the interchanges rethought. Beyond that, there are way too many cutouts on both sides of the road between 540 and Salem.
Poor planning. Needed service roads parallel to Wedington.
I hope they also patrol on Wednesday evenings and Sundays when Cross Church is dominating Wedington. The “good Christians” don’t seem to let their personal beliefs spill over into their driving habits.
Amen!
The police are already there (part of the time at least).
Yes but the police are only there to supposedly direct traffic. I doubt they are going to be aggressive enough to cite their “customer” of the day.
