Cabela’s to open in Rogers on Aug. 30

Cabela’s is coming to Arkansas. Actually, make that Northwest Arkansas.

The Nebraska-based hunting, fishing and outdoor gear retailer said this week that it will open a 100,000-square-foot store in Rogers – its first retail location in the state – at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30.

The new store will be located adjacent to the Pinnacle Hills Promenade mall at the Perry Road interchange with Interstate 540. It will employ about 175 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers, most coming from Rogers and the surrounding area.

“It’s always exciting to bring Cabela’s unique retail experience to another state,” said Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner last year. “Many people in Arkansas have been longtime Cabela’s catalog and internet customers, so it’s our honor to serve them in our retail stores, too.”

From Cabela’s:

The interior will showcase Cabela’s next-generation layout designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience. It will feature thousands of quality outdoor products, including hunting, fishing, camping and hiking gear, as well as outdoor-themed gifts and furnishings. The store also will include a Gun Library, Fudge Shop, Bargain Cave and Deli, as well as a mountain replica featuring North American game animal re-created in their natural habitat, and a built-in aquarium. Cabela’s will provide offsite boat maintenance and storage about a mile from the store.

Founded in 1961, Cabela’s currently operates 37 retail stores across the U.S. and Canada. The company plans to open a total of eight more stores over the next two years in Colorado, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
