Locals who’ve been following the development of the Fayetteville Roots Festival might have noticed a trend over its three-year history.
The names are getting bigger.
The festival has grown exponentially each year since the small celebration of music, local food, and culture debuted in 2010. This year, organizers have pulled out all the stops to attract the likes of legendary songwriter John Prine, renowned acoustic music ambassador and Grateful Dead collaborator David Grisman, acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Darrel Scott, and rising roots stars Pokey Lafarge and the South City Three.
The 2012 festival is set for Aug. 23-26 in various locations around town.
The Fayetteville Roots Festival a great thing for Fayetteville, and an even greater thing for Flyer readers because we’ve got festival passes to give away to some of you. Try to win them.

Pokey Lafarge! South City representin’!
Darrell Scott, he can do it all, write/sing/play. Carper Family, anytime Melissa Carper is on stage is a good night of music. Trout Fishing in America, their Grammy nominations say it all about talent, and they are two great guys that have been a positive influence. Still on the Hill, a great duo, they have played festivals all over the country and belong on their hometown stage as well. Effron White, the hardest working songwriter in Fayetteville, AR. Emily Kaitz, another great local influence on music. 3 Penny Acre, another great soud out of NWA. Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, she’s Terri Hendrix and he’s Lloyd Maines, all we have to do is listen. If I have to pick just one though it would be me, singing along in the audience to so many talented people.
