This week’s beer: Grapefruit Radler by Stiegl.
This 2.5% alcohol fruit beer is brewed by Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg in Austria.
It pours with a honey color and has little-to-no head. The aroma is grapefruity and crisp.
The taste is of tangy grapefruit with a sweet, lemon finish. It has a light body and lots of carbonation. It’s reminiscent of Fresca soda, but with a little bit of a beer bite.
Honestly, I was all prepared to hate this particular beverage. I’m not a fan of fruit beers in general, but this one is really nice. It’s refreshing and tasty with just enough alcohol to make it interesting. It would be a great to drink on a hot day in the sun without getting sloshed.
Pair with key lime pie or fresh fruit.

I had Shiner’s Ruby Redbird a couple weeks ago for the first time. It has ruby red grapefruit juice and ginger. I too am not usually a fan of fruit beers but it was really good. Perfect for a hot summer day. I will have to give this one a try.
Ruby Redbird is indeed delicious. It’s one of those seasonal beers that I always find myself stockpiling when I know it won’t be around much longer.
I am definitely interested in trying this particular brew, in part because of the low alcohol content. Sounds like it would be a good lake beer, i.e. one you could (accidentally) drink 6 of and still be okay.
Drinking all the different Stiegls was one of my favorite parts from Foam Fest. I think there was only one that wasn’t delicious, but I can’t remember which. Really should have kept a voice-recorded beer log.
