Downtown businesses plan Dog Days of Summer benefit July 21

A whole bunch of Fayetteville businesses will work together this month to raise funds and supplies for the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of the Ozarks.

The event, set for Saturday, July 21, is called Dogs Days of Summer, and includes 20 downtown businesses that will sell event t-shirts and collect donations of cash, food and toys for animals. Several of the participating businesses will also host adoptable animals inside their stores that day.

Applications will also be available at each location for folks interested in adopting a furry friend.

“It’s just a fun event for the stores involved, and it’s also good to be able educate people about the difference between the shelter and the Humane Society,” said Something Urban owner Amy White, who spearheads the event.

White, who serves on the board of directors for the Humane Society, said that people commonly mistake the organization for a shelter. The Humane Society’s mission is to prevent animal cruelty, and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

Several businesses will host their own sales and specials that provide additional opportunities to raise funds for the local animal organizations.

The event is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. on July 21 at the businesses listed below.
