Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission seeks new member

  • by Todd Gill, Flyer Staff
    on July 16, 2012 at 12:55 pm

The Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission is seeking a new member to fill an unexpired term for a commission seat which expires April 1, 2014.

The seat became vacant with the resignation of Jammin’ Java owner Brandon Karn, who stepped down last month after four years of service as a member of the volunteer group.

“I’ve had a good run on the commission, but I feel like it’s time to focus on my business, and some other opportunities that are coming up right now,” Karn said earlier this month.

The commission last week voted unanimously to advertise for the vacancy instead of choosing one of two possible applicants – restaurant owners Ching Mong of Formosa Chinese Restaurant and Hannah Withers of Little Bread Company – who applied for a vacant seat in April. That seat was filled when Ella’s Restaurant executive chef William Lyle was chosen by the commission to serve a second term.

Applicants must be an owner or manager of a local hotel, motel, or restaurant, be a registered voter and a Fayetteville resident.

Applications are available on the city’s website or may be picked up at the Visitor Center on the downtown square. Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. Applications should be delivered to A&P Executive Director Marilyn Heifner at the Fayetteville Visitor Center, 21 S. Block Ave. in Fayetteville.

Commissioners will consider the applicants and choose a new commissioner during their next schedule meeting at 2 p.m. on Aug. 13 in the Fayetteville Town Center. The selection will then need to be ratified by the Fayetteville City Council.

Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission

The seven-member commission is comprised of two elected city officials (City Council members or the mayor), four owners or managers of businesses in the tourism industry (at least three from hotels, motels, or restaurants) and one person from the public at-large.

CURRENT MEMBERS
Maudie Schmitt: Owner, Cafe Rue Orleans
Hannah Mills: Manager, Dickson Street Inn
William Lyle: Executive chef, Ella’s Restaurant
Bobby Ferrell: City Council member
Justin Tennant: City Council member
Bob Davis: Resident (at-large member)
