Pets of the week: Uncle Sam and Mandy

Uncle Sam

Photos: Todd Gill, Flyer staff

Meet Uncle Sam, a 2-year-old Tabby kitty who needs a new home. His owner moved into a hospice and with nobody to take care of him, he was sent to the Fayetteville Animal Shelter. He’s a shy guy, but he loves being rubbed on so if you hold your hand out, he comes trotting right up. The folks at the shelter said he rolls onto his back when he’s being petted and that’s exactly what happened when we opened his cage. He’s a super lovable guy whose time is running out.

Mandy

Mandy is one of the funniest dogs we’ve met at the shelter. She’s a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever/Heeler who could probably jump over you. That’s not to say she’s rowdy, though. In fact, she was super calm and friendly while we were taking a photo. Once we started playing with her, she got excited and jumped into the air. It wasn’t just any old jump, either. As soon as we thought she was headed back down, she somehow had an extra burst that added another six inches to her vertical leap. She did it over and over once we got her worked up. Super fun dog, for sure.
