News Briefs

A 632-unit student housing project called “The Grove” can be seen from the Fayetteville Public Library looking south past Fayetteville City Hospital. The complex occupies land where the Washington County Livestock Auction used to be.

As recommended, the Fayetteville A&P Commission will seek a written opinion from Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel regarding the University of Arkansas’ request for $1 million in A&P funds.

It looks like voters will get to decide whether the retail alcohol sales will be allowed in Benton County in November. The Benton County Clerk’s office has reportedly reached the magic number of 41,171 signatures needed to put the measure on the ballot.

Here are the public meetings scheduled for this week in Fayetteville.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg was in Bentonville this weekend to discuss business with Walmart officials.

Volunteers are needed for a University of Arkansas cigarette smoking research study. Participants will receive $20.

In his latest beer review, J.T. Wampler gave La Fin Du Monde a five-star rating.

Could someone explain how/why to get benton county to put alcohol sales on their ballot it takes 41,171 signatures but for medical marijuana to be put on the ballot it takes over 65.000??
Is this is difference between getting something on a state wide ballot v.s. a county ballot?
    How are these values determined?

I’m going to help collect signatures for medical MJ–what locations do you think would be the best, for registered Washington Co. and Benton Co. voters?

Since you need registered voters, I would suggest churches and places of employment. Good luck!

State statute initiatives require signatures equal to 8% of the number of votes in the last gubernatorial election.

County or municipal initiatives require signatures equal to 15% of the number of votes in the last Circuit Clerk or mayoral election.
