Openings: Q3 2012 Fayetteville boards, commissions and committees

It’s time to fill some open board, commission and committee positions here in Fayetteville.

City officials released the Q3 2012 list of vacancies and if interested, you’ve got until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24 to apply.

This quarter’s openings include seats on the newly-formed Town and Gown Advisory Committee, the Animal Services Advisory Board and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

All volunteers must reside within the Fayetteville city limits and be a Fayetteville registered voter. All applicants must submit a new application for each board, committee, or commission. Applications may be emailed to city_clerk@ci.fayetteville.ar.us or mailed to the City Clerk’s office at 113 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, AR 72701. Animal Services Advisory Board

Seats available:
– One Washington County representative term ending 06/30/15
– One finance term ending 06/30/15
– One nonprofit group term ending 06/30/15

Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity on policy matters of the Animal Services Division, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with the community.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in City Hall.


Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals

Seats available:
– One unexpired term ending 03/31/17
– Two unexpired alternate member terms ending 03/31/13

Description: This board hears and acts upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent, construction materials to be used in new building construction and development, and enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures.
Meetings: No regularly scheduled meetings. Members are telephoned a week in advance of meetings.


Environmental Action Committee

Seats available:
– One unexpired community citizen-at-large term ending 06/30/15

Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council.
Meetings: Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall.


Historic District Commission

Seats available:
– Three unexpired terms ending 06/30/15

Description: This commission recommends the establishment of historic districts to the City Council. Its basic function is to promote the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through the preservation and the protection of buildings, sites, places and districts of historic interest.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the first Thursday of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.


Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Seats available:
– Two unexpired terms ending 12/31/13

Description: This board recommends priorities for capital improvements and means for financing the same, and prepares an annual progress report on parks and recreation activities.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall room 326.


Public Facilities Board

Seats available:
– Three terms ending 10/15/17
– Two unexpired terms ending 05/07/17

Description: This board is authorized to issue revenue bonds to finance residential housing, health care, and related facilities to persons of low or moderate income and for the elderly.
Meetings: Scheduled as needed.


Town and Gown Advisory Committee

Seats available:
– One resident of Ward 1 term ending (TBD)
– One resident of Ward 2 term ending (TBD)
– One resident of Ward 3 term ending (TBD)
– One resident of Ward 4 term ending (TBD)
– One business owner/city development community term ending (TBD)
– One University of Arkansas student term ending (TBD)

Description: This committee advises the City Council and University of Arkansas on mutually relevant issues including campus expansions, on- and off-campus student housing, and parking and noise issues in areas near the campus.

    The Animal Services Advisory Board actually meets at 6P. This board is need of caring, “passionate leaders” who are not afraid to stand up and speak for those whom cannot speak for themselves, challenge the Status Quo and believe we can do a better job of caring and saving more of these animals lives. In my opinion!
