Renovation of the 80-year-old swimming pool at Wilson Park begins Tuesday.
Mid-American Pool Renovation will work to repair cracks in the pool and deck, remove pool plaster and replace the pool and deck surface.
The pool, originally built in the 1930s, has undergone renovations at different times throughout its history, with the most occurring in 1997.
A structural analysis completed in the fall of 2010 determined the pool was in sound condition, but that repairs would be required following the 2012 pool season.
The $256,490 project is funded through the city’s hotel, motel and restaurant (HMR) tax and fees paid by developers as part of mandatory park land dedication requirements.
Residents should expect temporary closures of the parking lot along Park Avenue, according to a city news release.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

We need another pool/water park in Fayetteville. This one, really basic pool is not good enough for Fayetteville.
Yes. We need an indoor, climate controlled pool that stays open year round. Swimming is more than just fun for kids, and it is frustrating that the pool follows the school breaks so rigidly. The only time many parents have the opportunity to swim is when school is in session.
Hear, hear. I second that, Van.
They could build one in the Mexican Original building. Right next to the food truck cuisine development center..
Agree , it would allow year round use for people of all ages – plus could have shared use with the school system. I wish this was on the city’s radar.
We do have a nice large indoor pool on the uofa campus. All you have to do is become part of the alumni association then you can buy a pass for the hyper. My mother, brother, and sister DID this when I was at the uofa.
There is also an indoor pool area at boys and girls club. Not sure how much fees are but all public pools cost money to use. I am more in favor of another outdoor pool that is more of an aquatic center like in Springdale with more features. Even Prairie Grove has better facilities at their aquatic park.
Sorry didn’t mean to capitalize *did*. Joys of a smartphone.
Just to clarify you don’t have to be affiliated with the uofa in any way to join the alumni association. At least you didn’t need to a few years ago.
I agree that Fayetteville needs another option. My wife and I take our two kids to swim at least 5-7 times a summer and we always go to Springdale because of their kids area. It’s great for families and is right next to the larger (and deeper) pool. The kids pool in Springdale is the same size but is only 2-4 ft. Deep and has many different play options for kids. I’m glad their renovating the Wilson Park pool but the city needs to build another one. One pool since the 1930s? I think Fayetteville has expanded enough to add another pool on the West side of town.
I suspect if we get a new pool/water park it would go in over at the land on the other side of 540 that we own. I would love for Wilson pool to get a dome for winter and be a year-round pool because of the proximity convenience.
