Town Hall Meeting inside Butterfield Trail Village

The man accused of robbing the train bank, the Bank of America on Dickson Street, and a Fayetteville gold and silver store was sentenced to 45 years in prison Tuesday.

A proposal to legalize marijuana in Arkansas for medicinal purposes will appear on the ballot in the Nov. 6 general election.

We’ve been getting to know a few of the festival artists over the past few weeks, and for our final profile, we got in touch with Oklahoma songwriter John Fullbright.

Did you miss the mayor’s town hall meeting Monday night? Here’s our recap of what happened.

Friday events, Aug. 24

The Fayetteville Roots Festival festivities are underway and KUAF’s Ozarks at Large will broadcast live before a studio audience for the first time ever in the Walker Room of the Fayetteville Public Library at noon to preview the festival.

Music begins at 2 p.m. at the Walton Arts Center, with Clark Bueling Trio on the stage in McBride Studio, and Effron White on the Starr Theatre stage. Headliners on Friday night include David Grisman, The Steel Wheels, and Hoots and Hellmouth on the main stage in Walton Arts Center.

Later on, David Mayfield Parade and The Carper Family headline a late night party at George’s, and locals Chooch and the Sidehill Gougers and Charliehorse are at Kingfish.

It isn’t an official Fayetteville Roots Festival event, but Nathan Miller of Cletus Got Shot has a new project called Roots And Hellfire, and they’ll play the free roots happy hour at The Lightbulb Club. There’s a rock show later on with Color Club, Adam vs. Colin and Christmas.

If you’re looking for something a little more plugged-in, there’s a funky-electronic show at LIT with The Floozies, and Fractal Sky.

Full Friday list:

Saturday events, Aug. 25

John Prine

Roots festival events begin early on Saturday morning at the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market. There’s free music from Farmers and the Market beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by Shannon Wurst Band, J Wagner, Raina Rose, and The Lulus. There will be a Flamingo Catering food truck (presented by the folks at Nibbles), a fruit and vegetable sculplting contest, and of course, a farmers’ market full of delicious locally grown produce, arts, crafts, and other cool things.

Also Saturday morning, Cletus Got Shot’s Adam Cox, and Mark Bilyeu from Big Smith will be performing at an intriguing-sounding show called Woody Guthrie’s Life and Legacy in Song at 10 a.m. at the Fayetteville Public Library.

Music starts at the Walton Arts Center at 2 p.m., and there are three stages packed with music all day highlighted by Trout Fishing in America, John Fullbright, and David Mayfield Parade on the Starr Theatre stage beginning just after 3 p.m. The main stage performances begin with Joy Kills Sorrow at 6:30 p.m., followed by Gregory Alan Isakov, Darrell Scott, and headliner John Prine.

The lineup for the George’s Majestic Lounge show on Saturday night is pretty incredible. Hoots and Hellmouth, Adam Faucette & The Tall Grass, and Pokey LaFarge & The South City 3 are on the bill. Also, after a long hiatus (minus the surprise appearance last weekend at Smoke & Barrel), local trio Cletus Got Shot will close out the night.

If it’s a dance party you’re looking for, you’ll find one at Rogue with the return of COOL SHOES. DJ’s Short Fuze, Party Trap, Wolf-E-Wolf, and Babie Armie will perform.

Sunday events, Aug. 26

Daikaiju

One of the highlights of the Fayetteville Roots festival for the past few years is the “Brunch in the Round” at Greenhouse Grille, and that tradition continues this year beginning at 10 a.m. Reservations are required, and will probably be hard to come by at this point. Good luck.

There is a show at the Fayetteville Public Library at 3 p.m. called “That Fayetteville Sound” featuring local musicians Shannon Wurst, Tiffany Christopher, Adam Cox.

Remember that beach-themed art party we mentioned recently? That’s happening Sunday night at Nightbird Books. There will be art by Rival Colors Photography, Jessie Ward, Kayla Moore, Sarah Norsworthy, Ashley Williams, Sam Houser, Marc Laney, Sheree Barnes, Cheryl Barber, Stephanie Bolin, Jake Aslin, Kim Abel, Owen Buffington, Brian Abel, and Kale Ogle. Glory Bones will provide the rock music.

NWA Roller Derby has a bout called Duel of the Decades Sunday night at the Starlight Skatium. It’s an 80′s and 90′s themed bout. Admission is $15 at the door.

Finally, after a weekend of roots, several of you will be ready to have your face rocked off, and the show for that is at Smoke & Barrel Tavern with masked surf-rockers, Daikaiju. According to S&B owner Evan McDonald, it could be one of the best shows at the bar all year.

Full Sunday list:

Botanical Garden of the Ozarks: Farmers’ Market
Greenhouse Grille: Fayetteville Roots Festival
George’s Majestic Lounge: Fayetteville Roots Festival
Fayetteville Public Library: Fayetteville Roots Festival
Nightbird Books: Beach Party – Live music, art sale
